I went to a couple of the games in Atlanta this week and Theriot looked very good defensively. He was getting frustrated at the plate because he hit 4 or 5 balls right at someone, but didn't have a hit all series. I hope he keeps the defense up because he will start getting some breaks at the plate

I was very impressed because he had let his play in the field slip last year. I've been a Cub fan as long as an LSU fan and I was a Cub fan before Ryan was born so other than pride in him being an LSU player he gets no special pass from me...he has to produce or sit.
So I was glad to see that he's worked and improved. He needs to start hitting too though. The Castro kid whose 19 is rated by nearly everyone as the top SS prospect in all the major league farm system.
Mikey went 4-5 yesterday...which is nice.

They clustered 3 plays that he made as his highlight. FWIW ESPN showed a pinch hit HR by Nick Stavanova(sp?) on his first at bat of the season. Stan da Man did his "FROM LSU".

I've got him on my fantasy team,
He has been sucking at the plate, I don't get points for defense.
He is 2 for 16 and 1 RBI

Me too. So do you sit D Lee? He has SUCKED all last year and so far this year. Don't give that crap about his injuries or age. The Cubs should have traded his arse 2 years ago when they had a chance. I hate the GM - sorry PM.
We get a good player or prospect like the Castro kid and trade them for some washed-up pro. Look at Alfonso, it is either hr or SO with him. Why did we get that big arse salary and think things would be different?
Mis-management! As you can probably tell, I am a HUGE Cubs fan and do not like what is happeneing with the Cards!

D Lee was actually one of the few bright spots for the Cubs last year. He hit .309 with 35 Homers and 111 RBI's and is one of the best fielding first basemen in the game.
I don't think any any way shape or form that that sucks. So no, I don't sit D-Lee.
I'm no Sweet Lou fan, and Hendry is horrible despite his affection for LSU players. And I'll take them to task for alot of things. But playing D-Lee is not one.

he got hot late, but look at the first half of the season when we were out of it.

He got hot in June and the Cubs were still in it then.
Lot's of things to pick on last year other than D-Lee. The fall from contention wasn't on him.

D. Lee gets a bad rap, and I'm guilty for it too, because of all the HIDPs

Only 12 GIDP last year and that playing the second most games of any starter and batting at a position where you're gonna get more baserunners on than most spots in the lineup. Theriot the only starter who played more had 15.
It took him a good year-and-a-half to bounce back from that wrist injury, but he was 100% last year and showed what he could do.
Need to look at Lou and Hendry's bonehead decision to give Gregg the closer's job, Lou's deferring to Soriano's insistence on batting leadoff until finally midway through last year he insisted on doing what everyone else knew was the right thing.
Those and several other issues dwarf any deficiency Lee had. Heck the dude got MVP votes and finished ninth in the balloting.
He ain't/wasn't the problem.

I may be wrong but was didn't lee lead the majors in 08 for GIDP?
Posted on 4/10/10 at 3:24 pm to mylsuhat
Quite possible. He was still fighting his bad wrist injury and wasn't getting much lift on the ball. His homerun totals went down and he did ground into alot of DP's that year.
But I may be wrong on this one, but I don't think that's a career trend for him.

Rameriz is slumping right now a bit, but he will get it going. I am just frustrated with the way this team has these huge swings. big Z was good today, but that is only every 5th start. the mid relievers better pull that shite together. we will need them. I just don't like ti when the cards are playing good early. that is usually not a good sign. maybe fat albert will have some sort of injury that will sideline him for a while b/c he, IMO, is will be the best player in baseball again this year.

This is my biggest concern. Even Mormol I'm not really confident in as his control is too often an issue. There's no one in the pen I have confidence in right now.
And our star power players like Lee, A-Ram and Soriono can still play, but honestly I think their prime years are behind them.
Just don't feel good about the Cubs even making the playoffs this year.
Hope at least Fontenot and Theriot have good years. Very important for both of them to get more stability for the long term.
