I'm still not sure why people think it is bad.
It has good special effects. A interesting story. Some decent acting. Some not so decent.
About the only thing I can say bad about this movie is some of the acting.
Now the two sequels are pure trash and not the kind of trash to be enjoyed.

Satirical and serious tones are often mutually exclusive, so if you didn't "get" the tongue-in-cheek overbearingness of this movie, you probably didn't enjoy it.
I was saying that I thought it was weak even as an over the top depiction of imperialistic America.
