Why even consider a RB in the draft at all? Bell's contribution didn't amount to much in the second half of the season. Why not just wait until after all the teams do the final cut and pick up a big back for short yardage situations if Hamilton can't cut it?

Because shot yardage backs are few, and won't be around after the draft. Look at San Diego LT gone and let go another back kept Hester who is great on short yardage.

We won't be drafting a "short-yardage back." If we draft anyone, it will be an every-down back to serve as PT's primary backup. Hamilton is a solid short-yardage back -- that's why he's on the team. When PT was hurt this season, Mike Bell carried the load, and that's what we will look for in a running back, whether it's in the draft or in free agency.

Personally, I do think the Saints will draft a RB in the third round or later. If PT goes down, then I'm not really happy with using Bush or Hamilton on an every-down basis.
