My financial advisor is suggesting I get one instead of funding my child's 529 account. I am reading background information on it but wanted to tap this board's expertise (if any) on this.
The insurer is OneAmerica Financial.

never heard of it. Cant see how it would be better than a 529 with the state match. Does your financial adviser sell insurance?

I do sell insurance and have heard of this being done...that being said...if you're from texas I recommend this program:
Texas Tuition Promise Fund

My husband got his girls into TTF when they lived in Texas. The state discontinued it, but now they have a new one similar to it I believe that you linked. Anyway, he paid $10880 lump sum in 1996 for each of them. The older one is graduating in May, and TTF paid out $24906.60 for her tuition and fees. He had to pay for a couple of summers and part of her last semester because he only purchased 120 credit hours (529 plan took care of that), but still. Great deal.
