I followed the Brady regime extremely close, as I did the Dale Brown era. I know all of the trials and tribulations, the unprecedented Draconian Sanctions (which people make fun of now), the surprisingly quick success, etc.
I also know of the character and personality flaws, the poor recruiting decisions, the lack of planning for long-range program building. The highs were high, the lows were low. It was time for him to go when he was fired. Regardless of what happened early on, there was no logical reason for LSU's program to be where it was two years after a Final Four run. There is no debating that and you need to stop trying.

You only need one reason - not enough talent

I have posted many times that it was in the best interest of Brady and LSU to part ways. That does not negate the accomplishments that were achieved during his tenure. If his recruiting decisions were so poor there would not have been two SEC championships and a Final Four in a 4 year span. The biggest impediment to consistent success was the loss of Brandon Bass, Tyrus Thomas, and Glen Davis to the NBA three years in a row, and to an extent Stromile Swift in 2000. I know the argument that other programs lose players, but LSU is not North Carolina, Kentucky, Texas, Kansas etc. who are long established powers. This is a program which was picking itself from the ashes of draconian sanctions and the descent of the end of the Dale Brown era. The only year in his tenure that you could truly say Brady's team underachieved relative to the talent level was 2007. Even that team had4 or 5 signature wins. Brady did not manage the Big Baby farewell tour as well as he could and there was a lot of indecision compounded by injuries to Davis and Rolle.
Salute him for what was accomplished and wish him well instead of this villification.

Remember when Brady blew a 21 pt lead at Villanova? Or failed to adjust to a full court press against UAB? Or laid an egg against Purdue in 2003? Or dismissed the mentally challenged kid from his team gig?
Yeah, those were great times.

Watched him play against my high school. He was good, but had no idea he was good enough for an offer from a major program.
I played with Damien for AAU ball. The guy knew he was good, played PG and SG then. I dont think he has ever actually "grown" into his new height....

How exactly did Brady blow a 21 point lead? Was he playing? Did he foul out his star player with about five minutes to go?
Ok, let's play your little chicken crap game.
Remember when Mike Krzchewsi blew that game to John Brady?
Remember when Rick Barnes blew those two NCAA game to John Brady?
Remember when Jim Calhoun blew tht game to John Brady?
Remember when Bruce Pearl blew that SEC tourney game to John Brady?
Remmeber when Lute Olson blew those two games to John Brady?
Remmeber when Billy Gillespie blew those two games to John Brady?
Remmeber when Billy Donovan blew several games to John Brady?
Remmeber when Jim Behlen blew that game to John Brady?
How many more do you want?
Remember when John Brady's team cut down the nets on the way to the Final Four.
Remember when Brady's team won the SEC twice in 7 seasons. How about that third SEC title team he recruited.
YEAH THOSE WERE GREAT TIMES.
Why was Brady obligated to keep a mentally challenged kid on his team "gig"? How many other coaches had mentally challenged kids on their team "gig"?

How can you guarantee that team would've had a SEC title under him?

Both had higher seeded teams and both had the lead in the second half. The amount of the lead is irrelevant.
Brady had an underdog team on Villanova's homecourt with the lead in the second half. Nova was a superior team, They hit a few threes late in the game taht they had missed earlier. This BS taht Brady blew the game is absurd. how did he blow that game? Tell one and all what he should have done differently? Change all the things that led to the 21 point lead?

How can you guarantee they would not have won the title. After all he had two already, the only coach in the SEC not named Donovan or Tubby to have achieved it during his tenure.

Manage Anthony Randolph's foul situation better.
Stop the team from fouling so much with plenty of time left in the 2nd half.

that is ridiculous. they were on the road. Wouldn't every coachlike to manage his team's foul situation. Who should he have put in the game? Recall Tas was out for the season and Quinton Thornton was out half a season with shoulder surgery. It was CJ and AR down low and hope for the best.

You know that guy that sits on the bench and employs plans/plays to prevail in certain situations? hes called a coach. you just pointed out what Brady was good at, letting his players run wild. John Brady shouldn't be a head coach on the college level, its as simple as that. Great recruiter, horrible coach. Id love to have him as an assistant coach/recruiter, nothing else. I think it was the '06 recruiting class that would be seniors right now. If i remember correctly, John Brady signed 0 players that year. Oh yea and about the PPG thing. 3 out of John Brady's last 4 classes have left us with a wopping Bo Spencer and Garret green which give us an average PPG of about 16. Do you honestly think John Brady's team would have been much better with practically the same roster and Jmison Morgan/TMG?

quote:I watched this pair play live yesterday vs Sam Houston State. I realize that it was only one game but they were far from impressive. Actually SHSU had an awesome gameplan, they sagged into a tight zone and left Baylor's tall forward open on the perimiter, daring him to shoot. Well he shot and shot and missed and missed all game long. Baylor just pulled it out at the end.
Tweety Carter pg baylor
LaceDarius Dunn sg baylor
Im sure Carter and Dunn are good players but they were awful yesterday

Brad Bridgewater was a quality young man who completed his degree and was in graduate school during his senior season. He was forced to play out of position much of the time. While not a big star he made valuable contributions as the program slowly emerged from the shadow of draconian sanctions to a top tier SEC program. He seems to be just the type of program player many are convinced will be the staple of a Trent Johnson powerhouse.

Perry Stevenson is garbage. You dont have a clue.
Dude, he started for Kentucky the last couple of years and now he is 6th man on a legit top 3 team that probably will play for the title.
Don't be a moron and think LSU didn't need his arse the last feww years! Plus he is in-state talent.
STFU if you don't think kids like this are needed to be kept and stay in-state.
Your B Ball IQ is definitely garbage

5 reasons LSU didnt make it to the big dance
1) They lost too many games.
2) They didn't win enough games.
3) There were more than 64 teams in the NCAA better.
4) They didn't win the SEC tournament.
5) They ran an offense similar to watching paint dry...white paint.

He was not a sixth man. Stevenson averaged 7.7 minutes per game which ranked 10th on the team.
Why don’t you assess the makeup of the LSU team during Stevenson’s recruitment. He saw Glen Davis, Tyrus Thomas, Tasmin Mitchell, Magnum Rolle, Chris Johnson, Darnell Laare, and Kentrell Gransberry and elected not to compete for playing time, assuming he was even offered.
