I remember reading a thread on here a while back about this place closing down, so last night when I saw it was opened, I was pleasantly surprised.

I have tried very little "ethnic" food.. I generally stick with your average American/Italian/etc. Last night, a friend and I were wanting to try some different food. We saw Pinoy and decided to give it a try.

Overall, I liked the place a lot.. BUT to be honest, I feel like other types of food might satisfy me more. It was so interesting to try, but I just don't think it would be first choice for me personally.

We got there and there was a group of 20 people and all of the tables were pushed to accommodate them. Because of that, they cleared out a storage area and set us up a table there, which was a tad off-putting. A Filipino couple that I believe knew the wait staff came in and sat in that area as well, and they helped us decide what to order.

We were told many times to order the Lumpia as an appetizer, which is the egg rolls but our whole reason of going there was to try something different (bad idea this time). We ordered the Sisig, which was diced pork.. except it was like they didn't care which parts of the pig they cooked. It was LOTS of fat.

This is their description: "Pork sliced in small pieces with hot sauce, lemon, onions, and served on a sizzling plate."
I am really sad we got this as our appetizer because it gave me a bad taste and stayed even after I finished the entire meal. The first few bites were good and then I just got completely turned off to it.

As my meal, I ordered the Pork Adobo which is was VERY satisfied with.
"cooked in soy sauce, black pepper and bay leaf."
It was chopped pork, and my sides were white rice and pickled papaya. I think the pickled papaya was my favorite thing I got all night.

My friend ordered the "Pancit Canton: Egg noodles with your choice of chicken or pork, and vegetables." He said he got it because he knew it was a safe choice. It was good, just a safe choice.

Overall, my meal itself was great, but the appetizer really gave me an unpleasant taste/feeling so I learned my lesson not to order that again.

You do realize that fat=flavor right? Most ethnic cuisines have a lot of fat.

Yes I am aware, it was just very off-putting for me because my pork in my meal was not fat and the appetizer was difficult for me to chew..

I just wasn't a fan. The cubes were white because they were basically fat cubes LOL
I should have gotten the egg rolls that I was told to order because the flavor itself of the Sisig was not appetizing to me.

Friend of mine works there. I was told a while back that one particular Saturday was their last day, but the owner changed his mind at literally the last second.

Coincidentally I spoke with her yesterday, and she said that they were still supposed to close sometime this month. So who knows.

Same here...i liked it, but I really want to give Bay Leaf a try, as well as a true Viet restaurant (which I will probably accomplish this week)

i got the Pork BBQ and it was OK...nothing special. I also got the pickled papaya which i liked.

We got the Lumpia and Sisig, as well...i actually liked both. The sisig was spicy as hell, but I thought it had a good taste despite being kind of fatty.

Overall, it was good...we obviously had a lot of fun, but I can't see myself ever craving it...

You little poo making us sit in the corner! Hahha, I am kidding :)

I feel the same way. It was interesting and I am very glad I went, but I don't think I'd ever crave it or choose it over something else.

That pickled papaya is so tasty! I hope we get back down there before Pinoy closes. Actually, I hope that business improves enough that they'll be able to stay open.

Completely agree! My waiter basically told me I had to get it as a side and he was so right! It was my favorite.

I've never been but I'm filipino. If you like beef and onions get the beefstik. Longanisa, a sweet sausage, which I really like. Beef or chicken mechade, a tomato sauce dish.

ETA: I just looked at the menu and noticed they didn't have the last two I mentioned. Bummer. But noticed they have Halo Halo which is sweet.
