There is no way an addition should cost $150/SF. Even if he is adding a bathroom or kitchen, it should be way less than 150/sf.

Yeah, that 150/sf has to be a joke, even if it was a bathroom or kitchen deal. That is $112,000.
New work is alot cheaper than a major renovation.

yeah, guess again. I priced to a reno to my house - which only included adding a 2nd floor without having to raise the roof line. $125/sf easy - that included no additional slab.

Also have a friend who is a builder who laughed when I asked if I could get it done for $75/sf (which is what I was hoping for too - LOL). Another friend is doing a reno right now and it's costing him every bit of $150/sf.

Sadly you can do it cheaper if you start from scratch - renovations are not cost prohibitive.
