To those years 30+ and older who are saints fans

That Superbowl win was for you guys. I'm only 20 and that win was great for me, i cried like a little bitch.
But you guys went through the bags, giving TB it's first win, The Billy Jo's and Wuerffel's and quite frankly the shittest of the shitty NFL seasons.
My generation is spoiled. Yes i have been a fan for 15+ years but anyone around my age doesn't really because a football fan (understanding the severity or strategy of little things in this beautiful game) until your about 12 so i've only been an understanding fan for 8 years.
Before i get to rambling let me get to the point of this thread. THANK YOU.
For supporting our team through the horrible DECADES of this franchise.

Yes I've been a 35 plus year fan, but it makes this year so special that I wouldn't change one moment as a Saints fan. There have been so many painful moments and experiences that us old timers want to block out of our minds, but we were there. We never left and never gave up.

I'm the same age as the Saints franchise. I've often asked myself how I could love something so much that gives me so much pain for so long.
Well, I'm not sure that 1 Superbowl makes up for all that suffering, but, I'll take it.

It took a lot of hope, I'm tellin ya that.
The pain of a MNF loss to the Raiders 42-35 still registers decades later. 1979- we were finally starting to look like a team after 12 years. 7-6 and that win would put us in a tie for 1st. They led 35-14 in the 4th Qtr but found a way to lose. Then, boom, the bottom falls out again in 1980- 1-15 Aints with bags.

The year they had a 10 point lead on the Bears with 2 minutes left and lost. Distinctly remember kicking something at work. Good thing I had steel toe shoes on.

i'm 33 so i'll take it.
my first saints game was a win against the dolphins in 83, stabler was qb. i've been pretty die hard since, however, i wasn't there for games before 83, and i feel fans that were, had an additional layer of suffering.

But actually, I wouldn't change a thing either.
I believed.
I barely remember sitting on my Dad's shoulders
at Moisant when the Saints returned from their first NFL victory in 1967 against Philly.
But I do remember: Walking up the Tulane Stadium ramps from the Willow Street sidewalks, hearing shouts of "Jax Beerman heay-ah", the smell of cigars, popcorn, and peanuts, peeing behind the columns with my Dad because the men's room line was too long; 'Gumbo'; Charlie's Saints; 80,000 screeching: "Go Saints Go, Go Saints Go" at the top of their lungs; the unearthly sound heard in the stands when Dempsey kicked the football over the goalposts from his own 37 yard line; Archie's superhuman efforts in beating the Rams and Cowboys in his rookie year; Danny Abramowicz running into a TV camera; shutting out the Bills and O.J. in his 2000 yard season; the incredible 1979 offense; the 1980 Bagheads; Lansford breaking Bum's heart; Coulda Woulda Shoulda, and the Dome Patrol; among hundreds of other memories.
Through it all, I believed.
But there will be NOTHING to eclipse the memories of the past month.
When Porter picked Manning's pocket, at first, like everyone else, I was in the air, my vocal chords exploding. Then several 'OMGs' with my hands on my head. Then staring incomprehensibly as the TV screen score changed from '24' to '30.'
And when Drew ran out the final 44 seconds - red eyes, hugs, and some more 'OMGs'. Bedlam. And overflowing tear ducts.
And yet, it is just starting to sink in.
The New Orleans Saints are Super Bowl Champions.
I guess I believe now.
