Mickey Johnson benches 500?!?

I just saw the video where Mickey does a 500lb board bench press (Meaning the bar needs to touch the board before he can go back up with it). Very nice improvement over his current 405 max on rivals.

The 405 was a paused bench press. I heard he maxed 480 or so. Freaking monster.

Holy shite. That's amazing. How much does he weigh in at?

I watched those too. The board press is for lock out purposes and generally one can bench maybe 10 percent more when they are doing this exercise. What is impressive to me is the video of him at the powerlifting meet squatting 600, I think. At 16 years old this is just plain nasty. And this was a legal, below parallel squat. Not one of those half squats you see the fruitcakes at the gym performing. A real squat.
I looked at his total and its pretty solid but I watched a teammate of mine at the Collegiate Nationals total more than Mickey at 165 lbs. But this guy trained year round.

I like to see players of his size be able to powerlift. Lets you know that he not only has the size, but a good range of motion.

I powerlifted and I know that it is a 'sport' that requires a massive amount of discipline and technique. You must be coachable or you will never reach your potential. This makes me like Mickey even more. Plifting is not for everyone

He told us last week he wants to throw up 500 at the state meet.

pretty sure I can outlift him.

Not if you weight train with Jamarcus

Powerlifted for the Marine Corps and this is incredible for a 16 year old that does not train for this year round. My only concern is that sometimes when you train like that you can lose some speed but with Mickey I do not see this happening as long as he is doing his long reps.

3 boared bench is easier then pause because you dont have to go down as far...Mick maxed out a few weeks ago with regular bench at 450..

That's Jesse Kellum spotting him...guy works out at my gym somemtimes. He holds a few world records for bench press. He's a beast and I'm not surprised he was somehow involved with this kid putting up 500

Mickey trains at PAC in their Excel program that works on both speed and strength. The trainers there try to make sure the players don't sacrifice speed for pure strength.
