Just finished watching it. I thought it was supposed to be a real good movie? I thought it was really boring with really weird music. I thought it was supposed to be "erotic" as well but I didn't get see that. Maybe it was the limitations that were placed on movies at that time? Anyway, I wouldn't watch it again.

The movie really hasn't aged well. My biggest problem with The Graduate is the fact that the main characters especially Benjamin Braddock are pretty unsympathetic and act like enormous assholes for most of the movie. Still, it's worth watching just for the acting alone.

Just watch the 2005 sequel...Rumor Has It...it will clear everything up. Costner plays the aging Hoffman role. And Jennifer Aniston may or may not be his illegitimate child.

Yeah the mom came across cold hearted and braddock taking the daughter to a strip club on the first date was pretty jerkish.

Yeah I'd like to think I'm bright. I missed the first ten minutes or so and I started watching it when hoffman was in a scuba outfit jumping in a pool with a bunch of ppl watching him. Don't know what that was about. I guess you could say Hoffman did a good job acting "nervous". The end of it was decent but the rest was weak. I guess you just have to be really old to appreciate it.

Rumor Has It

quote:

Early in the film's pre-production stages, Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft were strongly considered to reprise their roles of Beau Burroughs and Katherine Richelieu. But when Bancroft died and Hoffman had filming commitments for several other projects, the roles were given to Kevin Costner and Shirley MacLaine.

quote:

Jennifer Aniston plays a woman who learns that her family was the inspiration for the book and film "The Graduate" -- and that she just might be the offspring of the well-documented event.

You have to remember when The Graduate was released in 1967 that although the sexual revolution was in full swing this type of an affair was still taboo. Now this is widely accepted. After watching this film many a young man including myself went out searching for married older women.

IMO this oftern is the case when the younger set watches an older classic. Movies today have changed so much with the huge budgets, the CG etc that the younger crowd is fooled into thinking that that is what makes a movie great.....

Sorry you are missing out on some really great films.

A shitty gimmick movie cashing in on the Graduate's legacy.

And I disagree w/ the poster that said the movie didn't age well. I watched The Graduate for the first time a this year and my biggest reaction was that I couldn't believe the movie was so big in 1967. The awkwardness and dry comedy tone of it made it feel more modern to me. I enjoyed the hell out of it.

Would you call The Freshman a sequel to The Godfather? Same premise. Jimmy the Toucan is supposedly the basis for the Godfather character. Brando even plays both roles.
