I feel confident that we'll see some positional changes from the last two classes and LB will get some more bodies.

For 2011, I don't see any slam dunks at LB

Linebacker is the biggest concern with a relatively weak class in LA and the lack of out-of-state recruits that we can count on committing.

I think its safe to say the OL and DL has been addressed in the last two recruiting classes.

LB will continue to be an oddity.

Have you guys checked the roster? OL depth isn't really lacking. We just signed 3 or 4 guys anyways....

Porter
Washington
Fordham
and potentially Nick Jacobs given recent weight increase.

I think we lock up Collins and Robinson and maybe one guard and you call it a day. I don't even know if guard is a need. Maybe a center depending on Fordham's development.

We have already filled the RB need.

WR will be a need. We will sign 3-4 of them.

LB I expect to see some attrition from past classes come spring time. So this is a definite need.

We have a huge need at CB and we also need to land at least 1 safety.

Although inexperienced, OL and DL could be LSU's deepest positions.

Lynx - do you see position changes to LB?

We will sign at least 3 DTs and maybe 4. Potentially look at least 1-2 DE.

I would expect the numbers to shake out something like:

3 DTs
4 WRs
2 LBs (Big time guys needed here; bodies not really an issue)
2 OT
1 OG
1 DE
2 RB
1-2 QBs
2 CBs
1 S

Total: That gets us in the 18 person range which is very feasible given the smaller class.

I think some guys are going to get out of dodge. I don't expect Prater to be on the team after spring along with some others.

Let me check the roster.

Going into the 2011 season:

K Shep- RS Senior
Ryan Baker-Junior
Kyle Prater- RS SO
Kevin Minter- SO
Lamin Barrow - RS FR
Tahj Jones - RS FR
Justin Maclin - FR
Luke Muncie- FR
DJ Welter - FR
Houston Bates - FR

B. Mingo has moved to WDE. There is a good chance that Maclin plays WDE as well.

So I foresee us having an actual depth chart for the following season that looks something like:

Baker-Senior
Minter-Junior
Barrow-RS SO
Tahj Jones - RS SO
Justin Maclin - RS FR
Luke Muncie- RS FR
DJ Welter - RS FR
Houston Bates -RS FR

We need big time players to come in. We have a few bodies, but we do not have players that will let us win championships IMO.

Eric Reid moving to OLB potentially gives us a 'big time' player at the position and maybe Minter. But I just see LB as the biggest weakness on the team in the near future.

Position change to LB is not something we see very often at LSU....or I at least don't remember many switches there.

We need a Nigel Bradham caliber guy at MLB. The rest will take care of itself. We have got to land a LB commit on the scale of Bradie James to sure up the middle.

I think that our LB play has been lacking since we lost Highsmith and Beckwith. However, Whoever and Whatever we have to do to get a big time LBer, we need to get one or two. I don't care if we sign five LBers to make sure one of them pans out, we need to find someone.

That being said, I do think Minter and Baker will be very good players.

I think that's something Chavis likes to do. I think possible candidates maybe Reid, S. Francois, Ware or maybe even K. Hatcher although I don't see him moving.

Everyone knows that Texas typically waits until their first Junior Day to start dishing out scholarships, yet they've already offered MLB Anthony Wallace upon his attendance at one of their camps. So, Wallace has been holding a scholarship to his home state's university and has not yet committed to them.

Wallace has also attended camp at LSU and holds an LSU offer.

I think that, out of all of the major MLB prospects, Anthony Wallace is our most promising bet.
