Not that I care but how is it that LSU and Alabama both sign the same number of 5 star players and the same number of 4 star players and LSU has 3 more 3 star players yet Alabama have more points and thus deserving of a top 5 ranking while we're in the second half of the top 10?

I'm sure there is a logical explanation for this--probably the individual scoring--but it would seem like this is a little off base.

I like the class and don't get too caught up in the rankings. But I did find this odd/interesting.

Rivals Top 25

I see two reasons for this:

1. If they don't place Bama in the Top 5, those crazy Bama fans will track down all the Rivals writers and beat them to a pulp for disgracing the Bama name.

2. Their class is based on future potential. If you listen to a Bama fan, you should know their school's ability to take negative star players (- 3.2 stars) and make them into 10 star All Universe players

It's all an attempt to reduce a soft, squishy, subjective judgment about teenage kids to something that appears to have scientific accuracy to 2 decimal places. It's phony science and to hell with it.

i believe it is because there are different rankings among the stars so maybe their 3 stars were better than our 3 stars adn their 4 stars were better than our 4 stars. for example their four stars could have been very close to being 5 stars adn ours could have been barely 4 stars and close to being high 3 stars...at this point it is splitting hairs both are good classes and are only peoples opinions

It is strange, but I think has to do with the star average...If you notice their star player average is 3.62, and LSU's is 3.59....I believe they average the best 20 players of the class..with a point system..

so apparenlty Alabama had one player rated a little higher (4 star) than did LSU?

The main reason is the head guy at Rivals is a Bama grad. end of discussion

This has to be it.

However, given the crap shoot recruiting is, I'd rather have our class, if only because it's larger and there is a wider margin for error. Especially if the flops end up leaving (which happens way more often at every school than I ever realized).

No. Rivals.com is a BAMA based product.

Alabama has 6 or 7 top 100 players LSU had 2 I believe. That's why Alabama is in front,

All four stars are not equal. They have numeric ratings also.

Fwiw here is the math....

Its a weighted average approach...

BAMA:

1 5 Star is 1 x 5 = 5
15 4 stars is 4 x 15 = 60
9 3 Stars is 9 x 3 = 27
1 2 Star (not listed) is 1 x 2 = 2

Total is 94 then divide be number of commits which is 26. You get 3.62

Yes it's called "Slotting". Apparently every year since Saban was hired there, LSU's 4 Stars have fallen just short of the Bama $ Stars.

Also notice almost every day since 2007, there is article about Bama on their front page. Today's Bama special: Class of 2009 redshirts ready to debut

I wonder how many LSU players will be listed & how many Bama players will be listed?

I think it's headquarters are in Nashville, it still doesn't matter though Bama had more top 100 players. Thats why they are infront of LSU.

You guys do realize how retarded the "Rivals is operated by Bama people" argument is right?

Rivals team rankings:
Auburn 4
Alabama 5

Alabama hates Auburn a lot more than they hate LSU. Get over the conspiracy theories its lame and adds nothing.

No, because it's true. quote]Alabama hates Auburn a lot more than they hate LSU. [/quote]
LSU is by far your main competition, Auburn is not anymore.

I know it is COMPLETELY useless to argue with you but....

What does this matter at all? This about recruiting rankings. If Rivals was run by Bama fans that intentionally downed LSU recruits, they would do it to Auburn too. This completely kills your argument.

It's sort of like the Yankees and the Red Sox. Let them get their hopes up. Let them think they really have a chance. Give them their little victories here and there. Maybe even let them win a World Series every century or so. Then it hurts so much more when they fail.

Also, Auburn played Bama closer than LSU (about as close) and is now getting top recruiting classes which they never did before.
