Reviews out of Japan has said the story is VERY linear. Just does not have that replay ability like many great RPG have.

With bioware and atlus consistently churning out infinitely better products, I won't regret missing this one.

So many assholes complained about the gameplay of XII because it was too difficult for them, so I assume we'll be back to the boringly unchallenging "I'll wait on your slow arse to pick a fricking spell" battle system.

nothing wrong with a linear RPG when the story is as good as most FF are..

But such linearness is usually a product of stuffy, half-assed environments. I'm not asking for a plethora of side quests or a stupid card game, just for there to be some incentive to explore the world.

I'm going to get it because even a bad FF is better than most of the crap that comes out nowadays.

Only thing that I'm not sure about is that there's no cities/towns in the game. Should be interesting

HUGE, HUGE FF fan here...played all of them (starting from the first on NES) up to X. Stopped there cause I got older and didn't buy the brand new systems (plus wasn't it 11 that was online play)?

RPGs consumed my life as a young teen...Earthbound, Chrono Trigger/Cross, Mario RPG were some greats for SNES...Xenogears was great for Playstation.

Outside shot: Anyone heard of Dragon Force for Sega Saturn? I've debated buying a Sega Saturn on eBay just so I can replay this game.

Name a Final Fantasy that isn't linear, with the exception of XI which was an MMO anyway. They all are, because they tell a story. There are side quests that can be done in any order you want however.

Jigga whaaaaaaa?

I am looking forward to this game because you can not tell a cinematic story experience without that linearity to a game. Side quests help to break up the focus on the main story if you feel you need a break, and if the side quests are as awesome as in other FF games I can't wait. I love the aspect of finding clues to piece together little mysteries that allow me to unlock weapons or summons etc that make the game experience even more fun.
Talking about this makes me want to go back and revisit FF10. The ultimate weapons and all of the hidden aeons were so cool to collect.

you do realize that is what made FF such a great game was the simplistic battle system. The game was never about the gameplay and action it was about the awesome stories they created.
