LSU only team with top 10 SOS to finish in top 25

I know how much some of you hate context, but LSU was the only school in the country to finish in the top 25 with a tough strength of schedule....
an excerpt from a FSU site (followed by link to full entry):
First we should start with some context. Performance is irrelevant without context. In this case the context is schedule strength. We'll use Brian Fremeau's SOS numbers. Strength of schedule, based on the likelihood of an elite team going undefeated against this team's schedule. Florida State played the 13th toughest schedule in 2007, including the bowl game. In 2008 they played the 12th toughest. This past season the 'Noles played the 5th toughest. No team that played a top 9 schedule managed 10 wins against division-1 teams, even including the bowl game! Here is a list of that top 9 and the records against division 1 competition:
1. Tennessee: 7-6
2. Arkansas 7-5
3. South Carolina 6-6
4. LSU 9-4
5. FSU 6-6
6. Mississippi State 4-7
7. Florida International 3-9
8. Virginia 3-8
9. North Carolina 6-5
That's a combined 51-56 record. I'd argue that all but Virginia and Florida International were in the 45 best teams in the country. And I'd argue that Tennessee, Arkansas, Florida State, LSU, and North Carolina are among the 30 best teams in the country. But those teams effectively scheduled themselves out of the final polls. Of the 9, only 1 team ended up ranked in the final polls- LSU at #17. To further illustrate what a joke college football really is, take a look at the final top 25 and the corresponding strength of schedules. Keep in mind that these include the bowl game and thus teams playing against excellent competition in bowl games will have a schedule much higher than their regular season schedule for which they were responsible. That is the case with Texas, Alabama, and Florida, all of which received a massive bump from their conference championship game and bowl game.

1-8 record against top 25 teams in 2 years won't cut it. If you want to say LSU can beat OK teams I would agree. If you want to say they lose to the best teams and Ole Miss the last 2 years I would also agree. Let's see who wins the West next year again.

Moral victory imo. Yes, it provides context..
But we should have finished in the top-10.

So basically you are counting FBS opponents with post season results but excluding Texas, UF, Alabama, etc because their SOS will increase based on CGs.
Yet you include LSU, UT, Arky, USCe and MSU that had to play either UF or Alabama - or both.
Nice context.

I would agree. I'm not making excuses for a couple of the losses that we all know/agree we should have won. Moreover, I thought this was an interesting and relevant stat. Next year should be even tougher with UNC and WVa.
Also, i forgot the link earlier. Here it is.

It's gonna be a matter of time before we're perennially unranked. We can't stay on the pedestal forever.

You act as though I created the original post and made up the stats. This is not some end all/be all point of reference. However, I do think there is some legitimacy to the point made. Namely, anybody who thinks Boise State is worth a sh!t is kidding themselves. 104th? Really?

Different rankings. these are based on the likliehood of an elite team going undefeated with the subject teams's schedule (including bowl games). If you read the original post, it states this assumption pretty clearly.
Here is the actual link. The rankings are a final rankings but the SOS portion you can figure out for yourself, they pan out as listed in my original post.

Maybe you should realise that LSU should have lost to Miss State, should have lost to Georgia, should have lost to Washington, was outplayed by La Tech for 3.5 quarters, never dominated any team, had multiple penalties, could not get plays called in time, wasted time outs, had poor game management, and had the 112/120 offense despite having the highest number or players invited to pro scout combine. Maybe this points to coaching?

So when we win a close game, it's not really a win? I'm not sure if you realize this interesting point, but the goal is to win. Name one season where we play "well" every game and we didn't win any games we weren't "supposed" to win. Ask Bama after their Tennessee game, or Florida after their Arkansas win.
Was the coaching good this year. No. Nobody is debating that.
You guys all operate in this assinine vacuum where the sky is falling. We finished 9-4, #17 in the country and had 2 games we should've won but didn't. You need luck and players to make big plays to have a great season. If Arkansas or Tennessee can make a field goal, Bama and Florida both have losses. Just the way it goes.
Luck forward to next season and enjoy LSU football for goodness sake.

Interesting. I had some retard Bama fan tell me they played the #2 SOS this year. Wish I would have known this.

Disagree with the bolded, and even disagree with Moo State, though it was much closer.
Washington scored in garbage time to make the final score close. We dominated Auburn, Tulane (lol) and ULL(lol).
Was this year perfect? Hell no. Our line looked bad and JJ was inconsistent at best. However, do I think the sky is falling? Hell no. I think we'll be in the mix for the SECW next year. I think 2010 will be a fun season with Arky, Auburn, LSU, and Bama all having legit shots at the SECCG.
