I didn't say they were gospel. I said you were wrong to think they gave a shite about Craig James and his son.
Personally I think it is more of a case of the James's being ESPN's inside scoop to the story and they are leaning on the side of protecting their informant so to say.

Here’s a copy of Texas Tech Coach Mike Leach’s statement to the news media about his firing today:
Leach Speaks Out
“I want everyone to know what a privilege and pleasure it has been to teach and coach more than 400 student-athletes at Texas Tech University over the past 10 years. When I arrived at Texas Tech, the football program was on NCAA probation and the graduation rate was far below the national average. However, in the past 10 years, Tech has been to 10 straight bowl games, has the third best record in the Big 12 Conference, and has the highest graduation rate for football players of any public institution in the country.
Over the past several months, there have been individuals in the Texas Tech administration, Board of Regents and booster groups who have dealt in lies, and continue to do so. These lies have led to my firing this morning. I steadfastly refuse to deal in any lies, and am disappointed that I have not been afforded the opportunity for the truth to be known. Texas Tech’s decision to deal in lies and fabricate a story which led to my firing, includes, but is not limited by, the animosity remaining from last year’s contract negotiations. I will not tolerate such retaliatory action; additionally, we will pursue all available legal remedies.
These actions taken by Texas Tech have severely damaged my reputation and public image. In addition, Texas Tech has caused harm to not only my family, but to the entire Red Raider nation and the sport of college football.
As you know, I prefer to engage in question and answer sessions; however, in this instance my counsel has advised me to simply make a statement. There will be time to answer questions about this issue in the future, but the serious legal nature of this situation prevents me from going into further detail at this time.”

Doesnt Leach have a law degree himself? I know he is one of the few DI caoches who didnt play DI ball.
Posted on 12/30/09 at 9:31 pm to 4nmylifetime
Yes he has a law degree from Pepperdine-- a good school and he was near the top of his class.
he also just had a law review article published in the TT Law Review.
He knows what he is doing, for better or worse. I think he could have been better behaved but TT screwed up on this one. bad.

It sounds like right now most of the analysts on ESPN are siding with TT and the James boys. I'm sure many of them have their doubts but they don't want to be perceived as shoving a colleague or his son under the bus.
It will be interesting to see if they change their tune when more facts come out.

If he's looking for an OC gig, I got an idea where he could send a resume.
A Leach offense and a Chavis defense? Lethal.

ESPN needs to be very careful here. They may end up looking somewhat foolish. Its all about credibility and they could lose a lot pending the outcome of this thing. They should just report the facts AS they are known...and stop spinning it the James family way.

Let me see if I can capsulize Texas Tech's position. We fired him because we gave him the chance to apologize and he refused.
Wait a minute. If a coach mistreated an injured player to the extent that you immediately suspended him and want to fire him, are you gonna let him come back and coach as if nothing happened just because he says he is sorry?
No way. What a load of crap. Leach will get a bundle of money simply because Texas Tech's story has more holes than a batting cage net.

That is what I said last night. Maybe this guy is right about C. James being a cancer.

Once discovery takes place in the Leach suit against Tech, ALL sorts of emails will come to light. Tech will have the opportunity to thank prima donna James for bringing another D1 school to it's knees. Craig James is a cancer.

its funny bec i didn't know anything abt this james gang before this. but i tend to agree based on what i've seen.
whats interesting is that its very clear that LOTS of emails are missing... those emails dont even cover the last couple months where the serious problem negotiations occurred. All of that stuff is going to have to be produced in court. TT is in deep shite. Litigation alone is going to be huge cost, not to mention the junk that comes out in the emails about the "behind the scenes". its absolutely a no-win and the AD as well as the chancellor will not survive it. leach will though.

I wonder if they go after ESPN if the one sided reporting does not stop.

Another way to look at it would be if he apologized then Tech can say well he made a mistake, realizes it, and won't do it again.
If he refuses to apologize then it means he doesn't think he did anything wrong, and is possible he will repeat his actions in the future.

well the law on defamation i think (i am fuzzy on this) is that if you know or should have known that a story you are running is false and if that false story causes tangible harm (e.g. $ loss) to the target then that's defamation. I am sure they will sue ESPN and then see what comes out in discovery. They just need 2 things to collect: (1) an email from within ESPN wherein someone (who knows) says "you know, maybe this shite aint true; and (2) for it not to be true. Its a tricky road with the newsmedia. As long as they say "it is alleged" then thats ok. i havent followed espn bec i am disgusted witth this james guy so i dont know what they are saying.

Guy reminded me of an ambulance chaser. WTF was Leach thinking. I could only assume Leach practically represented himself.
Sportcenter just showed a video of the electrical closet james was being held up in, it was taken from adam james camera phone. Didn't appear to be the closet Leach's attorney claimed. excuse me the garage he claimed.
