quote:Good points and I mostly agree with you. But it's his own fault that he does, because of the way he presents himself and his defense of his system and the program. If he would change, he would negate some of the criticism, but he can't or won't.
He has shown he makes changes and strives to get better, but no one gives any credit when he does right.
I bet he is easily gets the most unwarrranted criticism of any big time coach in the country.

Expect a surprise late BCS crown title/ late/new recruit player or two for Bama via titles spoils in the next few months. And a spike for next year.
I'd be willing my posting privaleges that, with a successful '10 year, that LSU has a better '11 class than Alabama.

yeah right...I'm sure he learned alot from that cluster frick he headed in Miami. He couldn't even throw the 'challenge flag' correctly. face it sabanistas...nick got laughed out of the league and he couldn't even handle his departure with class, dignity or honor. the only 'phase' saban got better at is now he gets all the calls (and reviews by 'impartial' officials) that went against him while at LSU. lofl.

Why didn't he do so at LSU? This is legit. All I see are posts from Ms. Cleo's assistants that Alabama will win the West for the next 34 years because there's no one to stop him.
He didn't do so at LSU. Why is that?
I'm so sorry I missed this thread. Saban is in a better position now than he was at LSU. When he came to LSU in Dec. 1999, the coaching world knew how good of a coach was, but the high school coaches and recruits in the South did not. Saban proceeded to build the dominant program at LSU. (That 9-3 record you listed in his last season would have most certainly been 10-2 if he wasn't already the head coach at Miami). People were able to negative recruit against him somewhat with "Saban will go pro," because it was eventually going to happen.
Fast forward to Jan. 2006. Nick Saban takes the Alabama head job, and immediately every top recruit in the country knows who this guy is. He is not going to be going to the pros because he's already tried it. In just his 2nd year at Alabama he went undefeated in the regular season. In his 3rd season at Alabama he is 13-0, SEC Champs, the 1st coach to ever take 2 different programs to the National Title game, and about to win his 2nd National Title. He does not have any other great program to go to because he is already at the top of the montain "realative to" (you like that Saban-ism?) power, control, and he will get whatever he wants at Alabama.
Meanwhile, his main competition in state fired their coach after losing to Alabama for the first time in 7 years. The program he built into a national power in Baton Rouge is coached by a guy who asks the state patrolman if he had a time out left after the clock runs out on him. The SEC West is Saban's until somebody steps up and hires a coach that can compete with him.

Or at least until he loses his QB and most of his experienced defense.
Attrition doesn't exist at Alabama?

He did. 2001 vs. Ole Miss, Nick Saban got booed in his own stadium for sitting on the ball while losing before the half. After their 3rd loss of the season, LSU unleashed Rohan Davey and Josh Reed on their opponents for the rest of the year and rallied to win the SEC and Sugar Bowl. Look at his game plans at Alabama. He's not afraid to take a few chances now. They threw while at the goal line on 3rd down vs. Auburn in the last minute of the game, when a FG would have given them the lead. He came out vs. LSU and Florida passing the ball, not trying to play a punt and field position game.
The guy is on his "A" game right now.

I won't say he will win the West every year. But he will win at least half of the next six. He loses some defense after this year, but his key offensive players all return. He lost two great OL last year and their line was still dominant this year.
Saban may be in only his 3rd year at Bama, but he had immediate credibility in recruiting when he showed up, and they are loaded with talent.

Hey, I 'm hoping Bama slows their roll too.
I keep reminding myself of Saban's woeful lifetime bowl marks, especially sans his LSU era(then again Miles had but one bowl W too prior to LSU days)..
But it is gonna be up the West to close ground on Saban/Bama, as they play to their own standard, and not up-and-down to whatever the current SEC/West landscape is..like some other HC regime/West Program we know.

Actually going to be a really good year in Alabama too. Some think the best in a decade or so.

so many have revised history....its sickening"
Im so tired of this. Saban is now a proven winner. When he arrived a LSU he was building a program, he did not inherit one. No comparison. He was not Nick Saban, the commodity, when he showed up at LSU, he was just another coach, building a program and his reputation at LSU. When he walked on at LSU nobody knew who he was. When he walked on to Alabam's campus, EVERYONE knew who he was. He coached some talented teams at LSU but the meat of his best recruiting came of age at LSU after he was gone. He is pulling the same type of talent at BAMA as he did at LSU. HE went 11-0 (regular season)IN HIS SECOND YEAR AT ALABAMA! He is 12-0 in year 3 and playing for the national title in year three with good talent not great. Wait till he has LSU talent from 05, 06, 07 at BAMA. Do you really doubt this guy?

Wait until he loses all of Shula's players-THEN we will see how well he can do.

Nah.. All of those senior defensive studs that Shula recruited will be gone this year, along with McClain.
