Keeper situation

I've got a guy in my league who dropped ronnie brown when he went out for the year. Ronnie was drafted in the 2nd round. Another guy in our league picked him up and plans on using him as a keeper. He thinks that since he picked him up off waivers that he will lose his last pick instead of his 2nd round. I thought that no matter how you acquired the player, you still lose the pick that the player was drafted in. What is the universal rule here?

Doesnt matter. if he picked him up on waivers. He was still drafted i take it you said in the 2nd round. If he did the other guy will not be able to keep him. He goes back into the draft. so dont worry about it. He will find out come draft day that he wont be able to keep him. in my keeper league the players in the first 3 rounds goes back on the board. so we dont get to keep our players in the first 3 rounds.

Thanks for the input. That's what I thought the whole time.
