Yes I will never be able to understand how Les Miles makes more money than Sean Payton! Something is seriously wrong with this picture

Les earned that $3.8 million by winning a National Championship. It was in his contract. He made between $1 and $2 million when he came to LSU.
When Payton wins a Super Bowl, I am sure he will get a raise, if he was smart enough to negotiate it into his contract. Otherwise he has only been to the playoffs ONCE in his first 3 years. The Saints could easily go 16-0 and lose their first playoff game and gotten no further than they did his first year. Season's not over with yet.
