Does anyone remember Matt Mauck's performance against VT in 2002? Heck, his first four were pretty awlful. Anyone remember Josh Booty setting an
SEC record for ints in a season in 1999? Anybody remember how JR used to stand in the pocket like a statue and get killed from the blindside? I wonder how many fumbles he lost in 04 and 05?
As bad as many of these performances and habits were, all of them got corrected in sone form or fashion by good coaching. Mauck went from an option qb pretending to be a passer to an All-SEC QB. Booty, for all his shortcomings, dis improve a ton and won 6 games as a starter in 2000. JR actually learned pocket presence, which I didn't think was possible. I though that was something that you just had or didn't. Jimbo worked some real magic with these guys and proved to me that, in the hands of the right coach, a qb with talent can be groomed into something special. I would love to see what a OC or QB coach the calibur of Fisher could do with JJ. There is no guarentee that he would blow up, but there is no way to know what he can really be without that level of coaching and preparation behind him.
