A glimpse into the future

LSU Head Coach Les Miles was fired today, two days after a last second 30-28 loss to Arkansas left LSU with a losing record in the Southeastern Conference for the second time in three years.
Assistant Head Coach Larry Porter will coach the team in its upcoming bowl game, a likely matchup against Clemson in the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl.
Asked for comment on his dismissal, Miles said, “In each game we tried to display a focused effort on the field of play in every contest and finish first on that field. I enjoyed the desire that these young men showed in their eyes. I respected their endeavor and that speaks to the experience I’ve had here.” No word yet on what the hell that means.
LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva would not comment on specific candidates, but sources say Alleva is focused on hiring a proven head coach who can marshal LSU’s abundance of talent and quickly return the Tigers to elite status in the Southeastern Conference.

In other news, LSUinMA donated 18 million dollars to LSU.

It's fricking sad that you consider 172 words to be the equivalent of War and Peace. Go back to your Scratch and Sniff books and let the adults talk.

By the way, let me just throw it out there that I am hoping like hell that this "prediction" is way off mark.

I find it ironic that LSU fans are bitching 2 years post National Championship. Face it folks, the SEC is the toughest conference in the nation. If KY beats my Vols tomorrow, they will end up 2nd in the SEC East. If they lose, 4th. How's that for parity.
Louisiana has the HS talent to keep LSU a powerhouse for years to come and Miles isn't a bad coach. How many of you guys cheered him on for being a genius for some of those 4th down calls against FL a few years ago? If the field goal team got on the field and kicked a game winner, people would be talking about how great Miles is.
The margin of error is VERY SMALL now. I'm not saying setting for being a good team, but just be realistic.

That's a lot of effort spent predicting LSU's poor performance.

Let me ask you this: were you following the Vols in the years 1999, 2000, 2001?
Tennessee won the NC in 1998. In 99, they went 6-2 in the SEC. In 2000, they went 5-3. That's 11-5 over two seasons. The following year, UT went to the SECCG and were in position to play for a NC.
Compare that to how LSU has played in the last two seasons and then ask yourself if you would have been patient and "realistic" if UT played like we have.

A Tennessee fan trying to convince us to not run off Miles should tell you all we need to know.
I wish Bama would have kept Shula.

The SEC and the coaching has gotten better since 2001. 2001 was Mark Richt's first year at UGA. He is the only coach still at the same school since then in the SEC.
