coaches would have a reasonable base salary, such as $200,000, then only make the kind of money Miles is bringing home if they produced on the field. Would never work I know but if it was set up like that you can bet the sort of thing that happened last weekend would not occur. Les knows he is get his 3.7 mil no matter what so his motivation is lacking. Not so much if his pay would get docked because he had his head up his arse and didn't know when to run the ball or call time outs.

I really don't think motivation is a factor I think he is just expevting these talented players to do awesome stuff whenever called upon.

coaches will definitely make mistakes, it's the length of the contracts and the buyout clauses that get schools in a fix...most schools would not fire a coach after 1 or 2 years, however, in the case of a Michigan, where you know the coach doesn't fit, a school needs to be able to let a coach go without consequence...

i completely disagree with what you're saying..if i read correctly, you were saying that just bc he knows he's making $3.7 million, he could care less what happens on the field??...

In a perfect world, firemen, police officers, military, teachers etc would be making the big bucks and sports figures would be making what the above professions make. The world isn't perfect. Ask someone from the above professions if money motivates how they do their job. I seriously doubt it does for MOST coaches either.

Odd post from a gump who's favorite school paid the most in NCAA history to a guy that never proved a damn thing as bama's coach. He got rewarded before he produced for them. This has upped the ante in all of College football.

I disagree with the OP but, it has gotten way out of hand. Its only going to get worse. But I guess in the grand scheme of things maybe its justified by the amount of money the schools make

Miles at LSU...3.7 mil with a NC

Saban at Bama...countless millions while getting spanked by Utah
