we have lost a lot of talent on the o-line through attrition
1 of 5 spots MAY have been affected by this: LG
the other 4 were set in stone

and are very very young on the o-line.
yes returning 3 starters, 2 of whom are RS Seniors, and having a true junior and RS soph at center = VERY young

We have 2 seniors and 1 junior on the 3 deep depth chart for the o-line.
depth is weak, but we haven't needed depth
the OL isn't the DL where we sub in and out guys
quote:
Thats a lot of depth to lose and a good portion of which would be juniors or seniors this year.
ONE POSITION has been affected
so of all the guys we lost, only ONE may have started THIS YEAR

I think you are making assumptions that are inaccurate.
With the OL, upgrading a single position can often by chain of events upgrade 2 or 3. If there was quality, experienced depth, you would think that would be a possibility. I do not agree that LG, C, or RG are "set in stone" if there was a quality player available.
Now, it's possible that all of those 10 guys just weren't any good either which would support your position that the talent evaluation is poor at OL. Furthermore, I agree that the development has been poor as well, particularly in the pass protection area. Size can somewhat account for the poor run blocking. But, we are getting no gains in the passing game from what should be an agile OL.
The bottom line is, whatever the reason, our OL is well below average. This is what Miles should be criticized for mostly. It is by far the biggest problem with our offense. The playcalling issues that everyone points to is in large part a product of the poor offensive line.
There are very few solutions to the offensive woes when your OLine can neither run block or pass block. It is truly debilitating.

so you don't think that Zhamal Thomas, Jarvis Jones and Kyle Anderson would be starting over Hitt, Hebert and Dworzack?

I know you are trying to be sarcastic their but really when it comes to offensive lineman if you can develop the depth their to do it you would like to redshirt all o-lineman and see juniors and seniors as your starters at all 5 spots. Plus all the depth we have, other than the 2 seniors and 1 junior you mentioned, are freshman or sophmores.
