That play Chad Jones made on McCluster in the backfield was a thing of beauty and had me thinking "what if". I've always thought all season that a 230lb Chad Jones playing in the box would give the D a huge advantage over a 200lb Harry Coleman. Coleman gets bounced around like a ping pong ball during that Ole Miss game. Also, Jones can cover the TE or RB just as good as Coleman from the LB spot. I guess we just don't have a FS as good as Jones on the roster. Maybe next year.

Chad Jones possibly(!!!) playing out of position is the least of the problem there.

He has also taken one bad angle after another. He took a horrible angle that sprung Mccluster for the 55 yard run in the 1st qtr. I think he is a decent safety but not great

Exactly. I've observed this as well game in game out. Another reason Jones would make a better OLB. I just have noticed when they bring Jones down toward the line, he makes more plays than on the back end of the D. I'm just the type of person that is constantly looking for areas to improve and not settling for mediocrity. And giving up 400+yds in a game motivates me to find some changes to improve.

He needs to be at LB >hopefully that change will be made for next year.

Jones hurts the defense more than he helps.

Looked to me like he actually got kinda blocked into making the tackle. Seemed like he was about to be his tentative self until the blocker forced him into the runner. His play on the football field has been very disappointing this year. On the flip side, his pitching performance was a tremendous surprise and I think he actually has a professional future in baseball.

Said he should play LB along time ago and still believe it. Only way he plays in NFL is if he moves to LB

yes. he's out of position. he takes bad angles and is often caught out of position on pass plays.

This play was where DM had the ball out in the left flat. Jones actually beat a defender's block, but what impressed me was how fast he closed the separation between him and DM. That was an NFL caliber play I see every Sunday. I see too many college defenders not close that separation and just wait for the ball carrier. That's not the correct technique. That's how you get juked out of your cleats. Also, Jones tackled DM, he didn't just run up and hit him with his shoulder pads like I saw too much of in that game. I've never seen a 170lb RB turn no gainers and 1 yarders into 5,6,7yd gains more in my life.

I know the play and I still say the blocker actually helped CJ get in better position. I only saw it once though, so maybe I need to see a replay.

LB's have to enjoy tackling. CJ does not.

not a chance...his football should end after this season, and then he should focus on throwing 90+ from the left side and keep working on his breaking ball.

I say this because his professional future is as a pitcher. Why take a risk?

2-folded point: CJ has MLB potential with his arm; and for some reason on the football field he hasn't been very good.

Sure, he has shown a few flashes of greatness (e.g. Miss St goal line stand, punt return TD, etc). But overall, he's been out of position way too much and to me just doesn't look very aggressive. Maybe he's tentative because of his baseball future. Who knows? Just based on what I've seen this year, both baseball and football, his professional future is in baseball. And I don't think him playing LB would make any difference.
