Anyone LSU fans that have made previous trips to Oxford has any advice as far as tailgating, eating, opposing fans, etc? I already kno the alcohol is gonna be tight but are there any other 'rules' to follow?

Anyone? I need to know this as well

Fans are assholes and fratty as frick. No beer cans or open containers so have your alcohol in a cup. Icechest have to have locks on them or police/frat boys will take your shite.
I would just stay in and around the grove. Its a pretty fun place if you can put up with the ole miss fans(something easier said than done)

Everything will suck except hopefully the game itself.

The grove, all other parts of campus are dead. Must keep liquor hidden except for when pouring a drink.

What do you mean locks?
Posted on 11/18/09 at 12:43 am to Walt OReilly
Your ice chest must have a lock on in at, like a padlock so you can lock it during the game.

We're going up Thursday to spend some time in the square before it's taken over on Friday and Saturday...
Usually, Tiger fans take over bars on Friday and Saturday...As I recall back in 2005, it was the front of Ajax Diner....The bartender was so mad at us winning that when we asked for 20 jager bombs, she flat out refused us!
The key is to let all the shite Rebs fans talk roll off your shoulder...humor them and have a good time, then wait to kick their arse on the field...

Me, too. And they do enforce it.

Last time we played in Oxford, we parked behind the baseball stadium right acros the street from the Grove. Cops told us a county line runs through the lot and we had to put away liquor but beer was OK. Go figure! During the game, Reb fans hit our tailgate, destroyed two tents, keyed some cars, tore off flags and bent my friend's flag pole. Then, took off before we got back. It's a 'great' place to visit (ugh).

If you remind them what OMAHA stands for and that they don't know how to get to Atlanta in December, they should leave you alone after that...

Yeah, on one side of the ditch, you can't have beer but on the other side you can't have liquor. I personally don't like the grove but to each his own.

parking/traffic is a bitch.
get used to hearing go to "hayyy-elll" LSU... with hell somehow becoming 3 syllables.
You will see an army of fraggots with red pants and north face jackets.
the stadium sucks arse, but the bbq nachos are awesome.
the grove is the grave, it sucks arse... no generators, music, grills, open flames. Just the finest kroger chicken you can buy placed on grandma's sterling silver china.
it's a fun time just making fun of them, b/c they have such penis envy for LSU. Can't wait to whip their arse

I have been in 03,05,07, and will be making the trip this year. In 2003 Ol Miss had a very good team and the game decided the west. The fans that year were a bunch of assholes. Everywhere we went some shithead from Ol Miss was trying to start a fight with an LSU fan.
2005 and 07 were not bad. Ol Miss had shitty teams and they knew it. They just kept their heads down and walked on by.
This year Ol Miss has a good team so I expect it to be like 2003.
Also if a cop sees you drinking he will make you dump your drink out.

I went in 07 and didn't have a problem. I am going up again this year leaving on Friday. The grove is ok, but it is too crowded. Too many tailgaters in one place. We walked through it, but wasn't impressed.

I went earlier this year, from what I recall.....
You can walk around with liquor and drink it straight from the bottle but not beer. You must keep beer in an icechest with a lock on it (not always enforced, but moreso with away-team fans), and can discreetly pour beer into a cup.
If you want to set up a tent, the "rush the grove" thing starts at 5:00 - you've got to be there then for a good spot, but plenty of not-so-great spots available much later than that.
They are really bad about giving out public drunk tickets if you act up at all. Also, DUIs are pretty bad, and I hear they like to have road blocks where cops shove a breathalyzer in the drivers mouth w/o saying a word.
The square is fun, but parking is nonexistent, so go early on Fri/Sat nights. Bars close at 1 a.m. on Friday, 12 a.m. on Saturday. There are a few good places to eat (Ajax, Roosters, Proud Larrys), and to drink (same ones plus the Library - probably the most fun bar, but usually a $10 cover)
