Jackson, MS/Memphis Hotels

Where is everyone staying? I don't care if the place is luxurious or anything, but I don't want to get stabbed. I don't really want to pay over $90 a night, so I have cheap tastes.

Jackson is 2 plus hours from Oxford. Is that where a lot of you are staying this weekend? I live in Jackson, just curious.

Memphis would be a better hotel spot.

I would much rather stay in Memphis, believe me, but that's like an additional 3 hours of driving.

First of all...
Avoid any hotel with a "Jackson" address besides maybe the Hilton on County Line.
On the flip side there are some brand new hotels in Ridgeland (5 min up the interstate from County Line Rd) that are near the new Renassiance (sp)? Shopping Center which I must admit is extremely nice. The first ones that come to mind are the Hyatt Place & Embassy Suites...Don't know what you'll pay but can't imagine it being over $110 for a reg room...
If you stay IN Jackson I would bring my UZI..

Would staying in Memphis be a better alternative in spite of the added distance?

I live in Jackson (Fondren) and work downtown. Crime is not bad as you let on.

Are all the ones in Batesville booked? I'd check there first, then maybe Grenada area.

This may have been an isolated event but about two months ago, my best friend had his truck stolen while checking into a hotel on County Line Rd.

Did you look in Grenada? Madison has some decent hotels. Ridgeland just opened a Hyatt Express in a great location

Screw County Line and Jackson. The place is a cesspool. Look in Madison or Ridgeland.

Thank you Sabanisgod! I own a business in Fondren and believe me, crime is not as bad as Baton Rouge, Shreveport or any other place of this size.
However, the Ridgeland area and on up the road in Madison (which will be on you way North) are two nice areas and do offer reasonable rates.
Good luck and Geaux Tigers!!

there is more to do in Memphis than any of those places put together.

Well no doubt about that for sure. But if you are saying staying in Jackson is dangerous you just don't know what you are speaking about. Staying around here is less time on the road all he way around and I believe he was thinking that. OR that may be what I get for thinking.

Just booked my room @ the Hilton in Madison for 96.34 tax included!
