LSU QBs have turned it around historically

If you're looking for another JJ vs JL pissing match then please pick another thread.
My analysis on our recent QBs. The good ones.
Rohan Davey - the first time I saw him play was when they let him take a few snaps in the Auburn game in 99. Couldn't hit the side of a barn. Receivers were catching the ball on the second bounce. Thought to myself - no way this guy ever starts for LSU. I also wondered why anyone recruited a fat QB who couldn't pass or run. Took him a few games, but we all know what he did at LSU. Still the most prolific passer at LSU imo.
Matt Mauck - saw him in mop up duty and I really feared the future after Davey. Locking in on receivers, wayward throws and just bad instincts under pressure. The guy obviously couldn't replace Davey. And then the Virginia Tech game in 2002 confirmed my worst fears.
Jamarcus Russell - after an ok start against Oregon St, he was terrible. The mental mistakes against Florida with the easy picks made me think he was a bust for sure. Little did we know what was to follow. One of the most clutch players ever to play for LSU.
Matt Flynn - first time we really saw him play was in the Iowa game. Initial impressions - lack of footwork, weak arm and no real pocket awareness. Played some in the SECCG in 2005 and similar reaction really. Wasn't his first throw a pick six after JR went down? Championship quarterback my arse. Miami was going to beat us by 17 because we couldn't throw the ball.
With the exception of Flynn who spent a few yrs in the system, the rest of the guys took a few games before it 'clicked' into place. There were a couple of failures (Marcus Randall, Ryan P) but for the most part, our QBs have been succesful at turning it around after rough starts. It's the nature of the position and a rite of passage in the toughest conference in the country.
LSU fans need to start backing Jefferson. I have no doubt he has as much (if not more) talent as the guys mentioned above. We have reason to believe he will succeed - history certainly supports my theory.

Davey was ok against San Jose St., terrific against North Texas and bombed against Auburn. Came back with a vengeance against Arkansas last game of the year.
Mauck actually threw the ball quite well against VA Tech. Receivers were downright awful that day. At least 7 dropped passes.

JJ's gonna get us a win in Bama, a win in the FLA rematch, and another NC!!!

I wouldn't categorize RP the player as a failure. he looked good in both his starts in 07. now RP the person...

While that is true, I dont think you are giving crowton enough time to truly decided if the problem is him or the Qb talent he is given. Lets face it, if RP was never recruited we would have a JR or SR qb on this team with experience. The attitude toward Crowton might be different. How bout this, before we fire Crowton, lets see what jj/jl look like for the rest of this year and for the start of next year.

I'd like to have what he's smoking!

All QB's that are started young as freshmen or sophomores have learing curves.
Rohan, Flynn, Russell all struggled as underclassmen.
When they were juniors or seniors, they shined. Experience. There is no substitute for it.
JJ is just real sophomore and has led LSU to a 5-1 record with only one loss to #1.
Although he has struggled, he actually looks much more advanced than the others did as Sophomores.

we cannot and will not support JJ until he starts throwing the ball farther than 5 yards downfield.

The same guy LSU fans thought was the weak link on our team unable to get the most out of our blue chip 4/5 star QB talent. Funny how so many people are ready to annoint Jimbo the greatest QB developer ever when he was repeatedly blamed for holding back JR and our 'explosive' offense.
And I thought it was Bama fans who lived in the past.

Jimbo was the weak link in 2006 because he is a stubborn play caller. This is completely different from his ability to develop a QB. He's made the kid from FSU (Ponder) a good QB in two years , but he still can't call a game to save his life.
Crowton can call a good game; he just sucks at developing QBs. Thats why I believe that hiring a QB coach would go a long way in our future success.

I live in reality and in reality our QBs are not being coached well right now.

I'm not sure there are that many people who don't back JJ. He certainly has tremendous potential, but giving Jarrett Lee a few series here and there does several things:
1. It takes some of the pressure off of JJ. Right now, it's all on him, and he's made some comments in the press that give me the impression that he's a little gun shy under pressure.
2. It gives JL some valuable playing time. The man isn't going to get any better carrying a clipboard and giving hand signals on the sidelines. We need to know that we have a QB we can count on if JJ can't go, and that is a very real possibility in the SEC.
3. It allows JJ to see the game from a different perspective. Anyone remember Mickey Guidry coming in for Hodson once in a while? No one doubted for a millisecond that Hodson was the number 1 QB, but Guidry would come in for a series here and there, and that gave Hodson more time with the coaches and some much-needed perspective from the sideline. If memory serves, that worked out OK. Chris Leak/Tim Tebow at Florida is another good example. By the time Tebow took over his sophomore year, he was ready.
Bottom line: I want LSU to win, and it is highly unlikely with the dog crap offense that LSU currently employs that winning will continue with the likes of Auburn, Bama, Ole Miss and Arkansas left on the schedule. We lost to three of those teams last year. Not blaming JJ, but for Miles to suggest that simply executing better is just plain ludicrous.
Either find people who can execute the plays you want to run, or start calling plays that you know they can execute.

So, both Lee and JJ can improve and turn it around.
Great point. Hope to see both playing

See my statement. Its not either or chief. Its both.

My point is that most LSU QBs do turn it around. JJ is our starter for now and we have to back him. If it was another QB, I would do the same (unless it was Rick Clausen maybe)
