Lee is mind-fricked because he couldn't complete a pass to his own team.

Jefferson is mind-fricked because Miles has brainwashed the kid into not making a mistake nor taking a chance (AKA make plays).

This sums it all up in my opinion. Chickenshit Babying Philosophy

quote:

On Tuesday, Jefferson told reporters he thinks he needs to take more chances after looking at his stats. Miles made a slight correction to that.

"I don't know if chances is exactly the word I'd want to use," Miles said. "I think he means to throw the ball down the field maybe a little more, and make sure it's a timely, wise decision."

My thoughts exactly. JL was crucified by fans last year with the pick 6's. JJ is prob scared of the same happening to him. A sack on 4th down may as well be an interception.

It's clearly visible that Jefferson is taking too much time to get his throws out. If that's because he can't make the downfield read or won't, we don't know.

But this QB development saga may last much longer than simply this season.

I have no doubt that JJ has the potential to be a great QB, recent history (Georgia Tech game last year) points to that... Just needs confidence, which I'm not convinced that the coaching staff is giving him or letting him get through in game experience

Ok, reality check 101. Jefferson is completing 63% of his passes with 7 TDs and 3 INTs. The main stat against him is the 18 sacks in 6 games, but 5 of those came against the #1 team in the nation. And the OL has played poorly so far this year.

5-1 so far....don't panic....breath in and out!

62.8% of his passes, and only 1,016 yards in 6 games. Over the course of his career.. 218 attempts, 27 sacks.. sacked 12.4% of the time he drops back. That is -not- good.

For comparison:
J. Lee was sacked 3% of the time

No panic, none at all. I'm very happy at 5-1, 6-0 would have been great, but 5-1

Didn't Georgia get him 5 times as well?

10 sacks in 2 games against equal competition? Makes me worry.

That said, 5-1 this far and I'm calling for 5-1 to finish the season.

How many times did JJ get sacked against Georgia Tech? I know, different year, different team...

something people don't think about when calling for Lee is unless he comes in for an injured JJ he will be playing it safe as well.

basically JJ/coaches playing it so safe has really put us in a bad spot.

lee threw for 1800 yards last year. JJ is on pace to eclipse that FWIW. With that said, i agree the mittens need to come off and we need to throw down. turn him loose or we will be in trouble from this point forward with our toughest competition yet to come on the defensive side.
NS will have no mercy on that team. that you can count on. That Bama D is brilliantand a head better that FLA IMO.

Jarrett Lee was splitting time with another QB for most of that season, FWIW

Correct, and I am not one to take up for Lee by any stretch, but Lee did not start until game 4 and didn't play in the last 2 which Jefferson started. So, Lee was not the main QB in 5 of the 13 games. Having said that, what did it "yell to you" that J. Lee a scholarship player was beaten out at QB by Andrew Hatch who came to LSU as a walkon and had a grand total of 1 major college offer out of HS...Crowton at BYU offered Hatch a scholarship.

QB is the most difficult position to learn in college football. being an sec qb is even tougher. i trust our coaches to know more than us fans on what our guys need to do to improve. they see them perform every day and they are the pros. that being said, mayber we are "over sheltering" JJ a bit, but what the hell does he mean when he says he needs to take more chances? throwing into double and triple coverages; that's taking more chances. somewhere along the line, JJ needs to get comfortable and confident. it could happen any time. when it does, i think his performance will improve dramatically. if hes mind-fricked, he ain't the man for the job.

OK, then you can say "I told you so" in 2035.

I mean, seriously, how many 4th-down sacks does JJ have in his 8 starts? Does he have 16, as in the number of picks J. Lee had in his 8 starts?

Yeah, but Lee took over in the Auburn win in Game 3 when Hatch got hurt, started the next 8 (when Hatch threw a mere 8 passes in the next 4 games combined, or 4 more than K. Williams & B. Dalfrey threw in 2 games).

Lee lasted until the 2nd qtr. in Week 11 vs. Ole Miss, and JJ went it alone for the last game and the bowl win.

All told, Lee attempted 269 passes, Jefferson 73 and Hatch 45. Not trying to be a jerk, just thought that was a pretty big disparity...

Well Hatch is both Mormon and smart. That are two of the typically very important criteria to attend/play for BYU.

I bet if Miles put in Shep and let him loose he wouldn't be scared.

Hey, I'm glad you posted that link. Must have just missed it...

Following was encouraging:
"Freshman quarterback Russell Shepard, who missed Tuesday's workout because he was sick, returned. Miles said Shepard was good to go for the weekend and for the Auburn game Oct. 24."

Obviously, we can hardly trust Miles all the time, but the fact that he even addressed Shepard's status (and availability for the Auburn game) is at least interesting...

It tells me that neither of those guys were ready to be the starter. But we all know what happened there. Lee was the better quarterback, regardless of the picks.
