Does Anyone remember Tim Rattay at LaTech

Crowton found this guy out of nowhere and he went on to be one of the best passers in the NCAA during his years at Tech. This tells me that GC is more than capable of improving a QB.
So what gives with JJ and JL? Did the Jarret Lee hate from the fans last year destroy both JJ and JL confidence? Is the pressure from tiger fans too much? Remeber this next time you decide to boo your own players. I think what we are seeing is a result of the JL hate we saw last year. This can destroy a player and team.

Crowton’s 1998 Louisiana Tech team proved to be one of the most potent offenses in the nation that year as the Bulldogs ranked No. 1 in the nation in passing yards with a 432.1 average behind All-American quarterback Tim Rattay. Tech finished the year ranked No. 2 in the nation in total offense, averaging 542 yards per game.
In 1997, a year that saw Crowton lead the Bulldogs to wins over California and Alabama, Louisiana Tech ranked No. 3 in the nation in passing (360.5 per game) and total offense (496.0 per game).

And his history at La. Tech completely disproved that entire anti-Crowton thread.

Yep. Rattay was great. They also had an undersized WR whose name escapes me. This guy was among the NCAA leaders also.

Troy Edwards. I believe he had over 400 yards receiving one day against Nebraska, setting an NCAA record.

Crowton had the #1 Offense in 1A at La Tech, that's right La Tech. He had 2 players on offense: Tim Rattay and Troy Edwards.
Crowton knows how to move the ball and score points. He is not the problem.
Our Oline can't stop a 4 man rush, and our QB is immature and is afraid to fail.

I believe Rattay was there one year already when GC got there. Rattay was unreal to watch back then. One of the most accurate passers I have seen in person, game to game. A special talent. But the offense, the level of competition contributed greatly to his success.
It just doesn't compare when you look at the level of competition he faced. You can't run that type of offense in the SEC and win championships.

At that time, La Tech could have beaten LSU.

At the time everybody was beating LSU.
Hey, I loved watching Tech play. I went to Tech. It was amazing to watch.
But go find some tape and watch what he ran there. It was not the same as Chicago, BYU or Oregon.
He faced smaller linemen, with less speed. D Backs that played all zone, with hardly ever a shut down corner. He had a couple of speedy receivers and he ran a lot of quick screens to receivers, and the tailback. Lots of other crazy formations.
Something as simple as the splits between the lineman is totally different here versus there.
It is just different. GC has one issue in that he doesn't adjust well to the personal that he has. Give him the exact backs, qb's and line and he is lights out. If not, you get what we are getting now. A great coach adapts to what he has.
Anyone notice that Tebow is throwing about half as many passes this year compared to last? Why? Harvin is gone along with whatever the other guys name was.
If he can adapt his plan, and Miles lets him. It will be lights out.
He is a great guy and I hope he gets it.

No, crowton found and recruited rattay. He was there a couple of years before rattay and had some awesome years with Jason Martin at Qb.

Rattay was a wet dream for any coach...just ended up at Tech. Spurrier would have had him destroying teams.
