Hypothetical Hail Mary call

Would you choose to do a typical hail mary pass from the 50 yrd line to end
or
would you choose to throw it to a wideout posting in the middle of the field, and try to draw a pass interference call?
trying to solve an arguement
by the way, this is an NFL question.

ya'll don't think that the odds of drawing a pass interference call are greater?

No. They would never call that at the end of the game unless it was pure murder. And most of the defensive players not on the defensive line would be in the endzone in the first place.
It sounds like your friend is right.

Why would the defense interfere with a receiver 20 yards away from the end zone?
I don't know if this has ever happened in the history of football on a last play.
Hail Marys actually have a decent chance of working. They're almost as likely as an onside kick.

Do you agree that pass interference occurs more on a hail mary than any other route?

Yes........but its never called.

It's not pass interference unless it's called. Just something to think about.

This.
And... even if you get the pass interference call, still have to be successful on the next play.
So, if you have to have a TD, you're taking a very small chance that the defense is dumb enough to interfere on a pass short of the end-zone, AND the officials call it, AND you get a TD on the final untimed down.
If you only need a FG, the odds are better... but still, not good.

It's a safe bet to say more Hail Mary's have been successful in football than pass interferences drawn on the last play.

Are you just trying to argue odds and statistics with the different plays, or what?
There will be very few (if any) defensive players worrying about the middle of the field on this scenario. And those there, will just worry about making the tackle and not breaking up or intercepting the pass.

I was arguing my opinion, that it's smarter to attempt a hail Mary
