If you buy Guitar Hero you can use the Guitar Hero instruments with Rock Band games. I don't believe it works the other way... I have 3 Guitar Hero games and one Rock Band game and I'd say go for GH!

I have Rock Band on 360 and use the guitars on the GH series. The rock band instrument suck though compared to the GH ones....the 1st run ones do anywya, I got them on release a couple of years ago and have heard they are better now so no idea really

I don't know how instrument capability works on the Wii, but the RB2 instruments are all much improved over the original ones.
In terms of actual gameplay, RB2 blows GH out of the water so completely that it isn't even funny.

Rock Band is much grander. It is more than just playing the notes.

Thanks for that link. I have a Wii with Guitar Hero III, World Tour, and 5. Plus the World Tour band stuff. It looks like I can use the World Tour guitars (the ones with the sliding feature) for Rock Band 2 but not the first one.
Is it the same concept with Rock Band or is there more to it? I can beat nearly every song on Hard Mode (and 75% of them on expert), so I'm not superb at it. Would be frustrating to add yet another element to the game that I have to focus on.
I'm shitty at the drums because of the damn kick pedal. I have awful coordination between the two sides of my brain, which is why I could never learn to play piano.
