i don't remember which year it was, but ohio state was winning against really bad teams by like 3 points weekly and the national media kept saying as long as they win they deserve to be up there.

I do remember that but I'm pretty sure they were undefeated and #1 at the time.

Were they one of the only undefeated teams? There is a difference when there are only a few teams that are undefeated or have one loss as opposed to half the country being undefeated after week one.

2002?

ETA: That's the only year I can think of that you could possibly be referring to, and we won the NCG that year. Maybe 2003 also, but we were the defending NC's, at that time, and had won a ton of close games the year before, so the media was gonna give us the benefit of the doubt. And beat two ranked teams early in the year OOC, before losing to Wisky and dropping.
