Good factual record up till now. I have been up-and-down as the seasons have come-and-gone, and certainly have to tip the hat to the 2007 NC season and certainly have to be appaled for the 2008 travesty with a 3-5 SEC record and several embarrassing blowout losses

I call the slate even now

All the coaches and players are of his choosing, and he has had every possible recruiting, facilities, monetary and otherwise support one could ever imagine to have as a coach, leaving no excuses.

This is THE VERDICT year.

Note: no conclusion till end of season is being made...but this year means almost everything to this Tiger fan. Not that I can do anything about it, or not that I will change my lifelong strong fanatacism for my Tigers, because that is a constant and is coach-independent. Just saying that I have refrained, one way or another, from making an assessment, as I said from the beginning the 2009 season was the one to pay the most attention to. We are there. The first game was not so great, but that is not what this post is all about.

I am not predicting the results.

I am just saying that 80+% of my assessment of Coach Miles will be based on how his team does THIS VERY YEAR.

Geaux Miles and Geaux Tigers !!!

I pretty much agree. All of the Saban's players talk is out the window, and Les gets his pass for 2008. This year will show us if he's really worth a shite. We have an easy arse fricking schedule outside of UGA, Bama, Ole Miss, and UF. If we can't win one of those four games additionally, I think that's a huge failure.

you're naive if you don't think that every year is a verdict year for any D1 coach.

True, we all know what type of coach Miles is already, but I agree with Scientist that this is the verdict year. I was in Seattle, shook hands with Miles before the game at the lake but honestly came away disappointed with that performance!!!!

so if he does great this year, but not next year, you're buying in? he's your guy because the verdict is in? what a joke.

ETA...

which makes LSU's schedule one of the toughest in college football don't you think? #1 team at home, 2 top 10 teams on the road, and another road vs a top 20 team.

We all were. Not to say that there weren't some positives from the game. We did win. Thats all I care about in the end. I think people like this that started the thread are completely stupid for saying this year after year. Miles has been here PLENTY long enough to shut poeple up, but I guess there will always be rantards. Its funny to see how people forget how bad we once were

For one thing, we play SEC football. There is no excuse the way the team performed Saturday night. Our players looked flat. It was up to Les Miles to get them pumped up.

Another thing, why is Les Miles saying that the defense played well? Does he not know that we gave up 478 yards? That is not SEC football nor LSU football.

Why the frick does he not utilize talent? We have 5 star offensive players across the board.

Aren't all, or at least, most, of them for coaches at elite programs?

It's cute the way you attempt to minimize the 'factual' word.

That would have been so much more impressive if you mattered.

Short of a complete failure, this is not the verdict year. A winning season and Miles stays for at least another year. Possibly even with a non-winning season.

Its almost unreal to see how some of you think. It was the first game. Gonna be sloppy no matter who we play. I see no problem in Miles not giving opponents anything to scout them. True we gave up a lot of yards. But COME ON! You can sit here and tell me that based on that game....WHICH WAS A WIN... that we are doomed for the season?!?!

I understand under Les Miles we won a National Championship. I mean come on though, in 2007, we could have easily lost about 4 games that year. Any decent coach with the amount of talent we had that year would have won it that year.

What about last year? Why does a team like LSU need two unproven defensive coordinators? Its freaking LSU, we won 2 freaking national championships this decade. Think of all the proven coordinators that would have loved this job. He could have hired someone 10 times better than the two dumb nuts.
