Patrick Peterson should never be our leading tackler

I have to disagree with the style of defense that our DB's played in game 1. It was the least aggressive performance I've seen for LSU since, well, just last year unfortunately.
Here's what I saw last night. I saw an accurate QB pick apart an LSU defensive backfield that gave them free yards only to 1) stop the bomb and 2)hope for mistakes from the QB.
These didn't happen and we got picked apart.
Is it a good thing that Patrick Peterson was our leading tackler with 9 tackles on the game? Hell no, it's not. Patrick Peterson is supposed to be a lock down corner that takes the other team's best receiver out of the ball game. If they throw it his way, they should be scared shitless that he's going to intercept that ball or get a hand on it and possibly pop it into the air. Our defensive scheme has PP playing softly behind the receivers, allowing them to catch the ball so he can then tackle them for no yards after catch. And, it's not just PP, but all of the corners are playing behind the receivers. Don't even get me started on where the safeties are playing. What the hell are they going to do back there except tackle somebody after a 50 yard run our double team a receiver on a hail mary? Chad Jones has been made almost obsolete in this defense and Patrick Peterson is not allowed to take chances and intimidate. I hope this is just first game stuff, but I'm not convinced that these things are going to change anytime soon. When I saw the stat at halftime that Washington was 7 for 9 on 3rd down conversions, I knew I'd be on here today ranting like hell about the defensive plan. Is it too much to ask to have your best corner(s) step in front of a receiver and make a play on the ball? Plus with all of our corners there to make the tackle each time, it wastes the talent that our safties have.

that dude is a future top ten pick. he looks to be on another level from every other player on D. strong tackler and he just looked like he was happy to be out there and flying around. I dont get how Chad JOnes got a lot of the hype on the board because he seemed to not do much and was only trying to make the big hits but whiffing.

Your right Cutrera should, but then again he sucks...

your right about Chad Jones, he's a big hitter but that seems to be about it. yesterday he didn't even do that and we can't have safties whiff on tackles the way that he did.

That being said, I thought they defended the deep ball pretty well. The only down the field pass I remember completed was right before the half, and the defender still had pretty tight coverage on that one.
I think washington game planned very well and executed very well. They exploited LSU's coverage schemes the entire night. I'll hold my judgement for a few weeks and see what happens.
Obviouslly game play is much different than practice. Here's hoping that now that LSU has a game under the belt we start to see some improvement.

Jones is overrated. He really doesn't have the instincts to play safety.

where was our great safety that is a natural and loves roaming the field.
we all know he lined up 30 yards behind the line of scrimmage, so where was he?
he was the first person there, but why wasn't he there or very very close by when the catch was made.
