Regarding your whole statement of memories: you might want to remember that a lot of us on the Rant live in the area and clearly remember Katrina. Please save the dramatic hyperbole (usually reserved for those who want to blame Bush for Katrina) for those who have no idea what happened and who want to share your pain.

I’ll let someone else clue you in on the piles of body bags, the split-second flooding, and self-denial that anyone who wanted out rarely could not find a way out. Granted there were cases in nursing home and hospitals, but many more stayed because one family member did not want to go, or they figured there would be no problem. Do you happen to remember the 50,000+ abandoned and flooded cars left in N.O. after Katrina?

Yep, the 4 year anniversary of my move from Lakeview. Katrina was awful. Destroyed my house and killed 6 people on my street. But it was also wonderful, it reminded me of why Louisiana will always be my home and why "Southern Hospitality" is more than just a cliche. I was homeless in Hammond and Baton Rouge for the next four months, but I cannot say how many generous people I met that immediately made me feel welcome. I'm proud to be a New Orleans refugee still living in Baton Rouge.

Cut the guy a break. Math is hard, and the media made it seem like millions. To be fair, 10s of thousands of homes were destroyed, and most have not been replaced.

What concerns me most is that it remains categorized as a "natural disaster", and not the failure of a man-made flood control system. (I love the USACE, but I still have unanswered questions.)
