Today, I remember the millions displaced from their homes that still aren't rebuilt. I remember the sick being flown to LSU by helicopter, and body bags of those not strong enough to make it piled in the PMAC Auxillary gym. I remember a city full of life that was taken away in a split second, and no plan for evacuation for those without transportation. I remember New Orleans. Hurricane Katrina, August 29, 2005.

Do you also recall the governor, mayor, and president telling everyone to get about 3 days before the storm hit?

I remember my company trying to evacuate thousands of people who don't heed warnings!
All in All...it was a ClusterF.ck.
Pray this will never happen again

Or "Political Talk". G-d bless him, he did mention LSU's involvement.

Regarding your whole statement of memories: you might want to remember that a lot of us on the Rant live in the area and clearly remember Katrina. Please save the dramatic hyperbole (usually reserved for those who want to blame Bush for Katrina) for those who have no idea what happened and who want to share your pain.
The current population in the N.O. area is not even 8% less than pre-Katrina. Question, how many “millions” in 1.2 million?
I’ll let someone else clue you in on the piles of body bags, the split-second flooding, and self-denial that anyone who wanted out rarely could not find a way out. Granted there were cases in nursing home and hospitals, but many more stayed because one family member did not want to go, or they figured there would be no problem. Do you happen to remember the 50,000+ abandoned and flooded cars left in N.O. after Katrina?
I guess I’m just a cynical, hard arse who evacuated my family before Katrina was at my front door.
Now, what the hell does this have to do with Tiger football?

I remember the gangs of thugs that terrorized innocent people.
I still cant believe that happened.
But I remember also my church taking in 140 evacuees, I took a month off of work to help care for them. I made lots of friends from N.O.
They had relatives of Skyler Green, Robert Royal, other LSU players I cant recall and even a relative of a seattle seahawk db from N.O.
They had nurses, pregnant ladies, ex-cons, truck drivers, etc..and many many kids, some teenagers that were football players tha thad to be transplanted to new schools.
I think one was a wr from Higgins. At least thats what his shirt read.
There were lazy worthless people who wouldnt clean up after themselves and there were those that cleaned up after everyone. I saw the good and bad in people right there. Cant put all of them into one group.
I will never forget that as long as i live.

We definitely appreciated your service at the time, dude. All of our partners did first rate jobs, and I single out the FEMA employees who, I'm sure, continue to catch no end of hell, but did a fine job under the worst conditions imaginable.
To those of you who weren't there, and only experienced it by television, or word of mouth (both usually wrong, skewed, inaccurate, politically motivated, etc.) - words are insufficient to describe what went down.

Yep, the 4 year anniversary of my move from Lakeview. Katrina was awful. Destroyed my house and killed 6 people on my street. But it was also wonderful, it reminded me of why Louisiana will always be my home and why "Southern Hospitality" is more than just a cliche. I was homeless in Hammond and Baton Rouge for the next four months, but I cannot say how many generous people I met that immediately made me feel welcome. I'm proud to be a New Orleans refugee still living in Baton Rouge.

Cut the guy a break. Math is hard, and the media made it seem like millions. To be fair, 10s of thousands of homes were destroyed, and most have not been replaced.
What concerns me most is that it remains categorized as a "natural disaster", and not the failure of a man-made flood control system. (I love the USACE, but I still have unanswered questions.)

We made Baton Rouge our home for a year following Katrina while we rebuilt our home on the gulf coast. With the exception of the asswipes who run Sullivan's we were made to feel welcome by everyone we had the privilege to meet during our stay in BR.
