vs a regular directv dish?
So I go out, buy a slimiline dish and am H20 HD reciever. I called up Directv today and they say it is extremely difficult to get the alignment correct. So I call a local Directv installer and he says the same thing. Why do they sell tripod adaptors to fit the slimline dish if it's too much trouble to set it up. Anyone with experience with this, I'd appreciate the help. I just want to get the tigers and all the espn gameday shows in in High Def.

45 seconds, really? Could I borrow your expertise for 45 seconds on, say, the Friday the 11th of September just outside of Tiger Stadium? Impressive indeed

just make sure its level. if it isnt level then your tilt and elevation numbers wont be true. i would suggest not wasting your time on a $30 tripod. spend the extra $50 and get a heavy duty one.

also, it make take a little longer in week one but if you tailgate in the same spot once you find it just remember where you pointed it and point it there again next week.

we never got it to work on campus either. Lots of people have it working, for the life of us could we get it to work. Going to use an HD antenna and say screw it.

Buy this at Radio Shack. Make sure it works with the HD Reciever? You can find a signal in less than a minute.

Unless you just have to subscribe to NFL Sunday ticket, Dish Network has much better HD equipment than Directv and the Dish Network HD Dish is much smaller and a lot easier to align. Both the New Orleans and Baton Rouge HD Locals are on Satellite 129. You can easily align the Dish 1000.2 which receives satellites 110, 119 and 129. As long as you have your pole on your tripod perfectly plumb, and the correct skew and elevation settings on the dish, a simple azimuth adjustment and you'll be watching all your favorite HD channels while tailgating. A perfect Dish Network HD Receiver for tailgating would be a Model 211k. It's very small and doesn't take a lot of room to pack in your truck or SUV.

I definitely will buy a signal finder. I also have some sand bags from Cabela's that are used for holding down tents. I don't want this thing to budge at all when the wind picks up. I am glad you guys are confident that this isn't really that big a deal. Thanks for the advice

i think the satellite finder is a waste of your money honestly but if it reassures you go ahead. what kind of tripod do you have?
