well sure, but there are being grim with these projections because H1N1 hasn't really adapted to our DNA yet, it seems.

that's why our population is going to be so vulnerable to it.

Nah....they are being grim to justify themselves/cover their arse.

They don't want hundreds of thousands dead 6 months from now and having fingers pointed at them screaming "WHY DIDN'T YOU WARN US!"

I'm not sure that I completely understand your sentence, but I'm not of the opinion that even a projection of 90k deaths is "grim". It's certainly not good news...but not worthy of the hysteria generated so far either.
