Question To Tiger Fans

I was talking with a friend of mine who is a college leader at a local church located very close to campus. He was saying how much he'd love to have more college students involved at the church since they are so close to campus. He was asking me what he thinks would get people there.
MY idea was-and i want ya'lls thoughts-was to hold a parking lot tailgate party on home gamedays. i told him to not make it churchy but make it a fun, hangout spot for people driving to the game. cook a bunch of burgers and hotdogs, maybe get a band to play. not a watered down church band though. I just thought it'd be a cool way to allow people to meet people from the church. they could grab a burger or something then head on to the game.
Do ya'll think this could work?
Please leave the ridiculous comments out of this.
Thanks for the input!

Your pastor should call Dino Rizzo at Healing Place and find out what he would do. HPC seems to know how to reach out to the community alot better than most churches.

Considering I'm a vast minority by not drinking alcohol, I'm not sure that'll work. They likely won't have alcohol and not a lot of people will be willing to go to something without alcohol.
But, in principle, good idea.

I agree, they'd just have to work extra hard, the principle idea is good, they're gonna have to next level it though to keep people coming.
Good luck to the church though, hope it works ... this the one right off Highland?

The church tailgating is a great idea. Contrary to what a lot of people think, drinking is not a dominate factor in life as shown by the Centers for Disease Control stats for 2006. Note how the drinkers are defined and it will open your eyes.

Percent of adults who drank alcohol in the past year: 61% (2006)

For 2006: 18 years and over:
Current drinkers (at least 12 drinks in their lifetime and at least one drink in the past year): 60.8%, (age 18-24 is 59.3%)
Former Drinkers (at least 12 drinks in their lifetime and none in the past year): 14.1%
(age 18-24 is 4.6%)
Lifetime abstainer (fewer than 12 drinks in their lifetime): 25% (age 18-24 is 36.1%)

I've been to quite a few road games in Tuscaloosa and there is a church close to the stadium that provides parking and a meal and it is very popular. I think it was $10 for the parking and the food was $5 for a plate lunch of some type. There were clean restrooms before and after the game and the church really reached out to BAMA and LSU fans alike. There was a lot of fellowship opportunities and I would imagine thay get some regulars from their efforts. There was some music as well as I recall but no beer or liqour for obvious reasons.

yes .serve food and drinks(cokes).im also in the minority .i go to a LSU game to watch the game not to get drunk.
i do not drink and hate it when a drunk tries to say you in there seat when you been in that seat for over 15 years now

Then tell him to continue to expect low turnouts for any gameday events.
You're not going to attract people to your side if you aren't flexible with your edicts. If they didn't disagree with your hard and fast rules, they'd probably already be going there.
Just sayin.

I saw this at Bama, and even in New Orleans at Mardi Gras.
I think it would work. Give it try.

Well, since the church is a non-profit tax exempt entity, and since you won't have the biggest expense of putting on a party (alcohol) to tie up your funds, I'd say that you should probably be able to throw one heck of a nice tailgate!

I always go to the catholic mass before every game at Christ the King. The church is always packed with tiger fans.
I think that what you said would be a very good Idea.
