Ate there last night for the first time. $24 for a 10 oz. filet, we also got the mountani of onion rings and the au gratin potatoes. Overall I thought it was pretty good, and I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. Also, the 40 year old metal plates they serve the steaks on are pretty cool.

Prior to Katrina when I had the urge for a huge ol' slab-o-beef was my favorite place to eat was Charlie's Steakhouse. Ohhhhh the O-Rings, Wedge salads, the look on a newbie's face when the waiter came to the table and asked small, medium, or large(refering to the T-bones), no menus, and those old warped plates.

Since the demise of Charlie's at the hands of Katrina, I began visting Ruth's Chris for my steak fix. Now before any of you start on me with you can't compare the two, I know that and I am not trying too.

The steak a medium T-Bone that came to my table was by no means the quality of pre-katrina Charlie's. My side dishes Potatoes Au-Gratin and Onion Rings were better than I had remembered, and those I had eaten Ruth's Chris.

Now here comes the bill and this is where the New Charlie's and Ruth's Chris do compare. For $5.00 more I could have had a better Steak from Ruth's than I was charged for that t-bone. I paid Ruth's prices for way less than Ruth's quality. Either that or I never really knew what a real value Ruth's Chris was.

I am still on my search in New Orleans without much luck for a Steak house that can compare to my new gold standard of Ruth's Chris. I think Dickie Brennans is next on my list.

Eat Well, Live Well, and GO TIGERS.

Been there, but I liked the old italian waiters. They were rude, but that is what made the place what it was, along with no menus, etc. Food was like I remembered it.
