I think there is a shot for a number 1 class. Let's say for arguments sake we land Lache, Reed, Dickson, and a player who nobody really talks about who i think will und up a Tiger in Michael Taylor. If we could add a "surprise" such as a Jeff Luc or even Ego Ferguson that could be a number 1 class. Also, keep in mind there is a general consensus that a hand full of players already committed will move up. Mike Davis, Justin Hunter, Tharold Simon, Spencer Ware, Justin Maclin, and Zach Lee all have a chance at cracking the top 100. It is nearly impossible that they all will but i would feel safe saying at least 2 will. Add it up and that class might be number 1. Agree?

Im not sure about Ego Ferguson but the consensus is Luc is all Florida. Which will raise them even higher. I dont see us finshing number 1 but a predict number 3 or 4.

More 5 stars help, but why not?

I agree top 3-4 but a lot of these players listed actually dropped in rivals last ranking updates

Even if we land a couple 5 stars, I'm not positive the numbers would work out where we could be #1.

I'd have to take a closer look--We could probably challenge UT, but I think UF would catch and pass us.

Other than Maclin, they all dropped because new guys were added to the 250. Rivals will not bump someone up or down unless they get new film or watch the guy in person.

Around 15 guys or so were bumped up and it naturally pushed all those guys down in the rankings.

UF will finish #1. Too many top 75 type players on their board.

Texas won't finish up there. Their class is slip, slip, sliding.

Considering this being an average year in state talent wise and coming off a bad year, a top 5 class would be incredible. Next year will be top 1-3 caliber, so these collection of three classes starting last year and ending with next year(considering we sign the in state studs) are piled with talent.

This.

It also seems like the staff has been able to prove that there is a ton of opportunity available.

We are a very young team overall (more on defense) and opportunity will be available everywhere.

To break it down a bit:

Defense:
Kelvin Sheppard << Hasn't been that impressive and a young guy at LB could challenge him for his spot.
Perry RIley-Gone after this year
Harry Coleman-Gone after this year
Rahim Alem-gone after this year
Charles Alexander-gone after this year.

So that right there is the majority of your front 7.

DE is loaded though.

Hawkins-gone after this year
Peterson-gone in 2 years.
Chad Jones-will probably be here for 2 more years, potentially only 1.

There isn't a true nickelback on the team for now.

We don't have a starting SS yet. (but talent is there)

Offense:

Lafell--gone after this year
Chris Mitchell-gone after this year (I think he will be a SR?)
Toliver--will be a junior

WR is all young talent, with no one proven yet--if a freshman comes in and impresses, then they can see the field in a hurry.

QB is pretty sealed up--that's why we are fortunate to land a top prospect like Lee.

Ciron-gone
Barksdale-two years

Otherwise, the OL is pretty wide open. We have two solid guys at Center so not as much opportunity there, but otherwise we are fairly young and unproven. Talent is there, but you could sell the "opportunity."

RB--about to grad Scott and Keiland. Murphy has not done much during his career. Ridley just suffered a major injury, but has shown some light. Trindon will also be gone. Opportunity definitely exists.

Maybe it is just my own outlook, but after this year, I feel like the "face" on the team will completely change,

For sure, and call me crazy but I think we will be more talented the next couple of years. Sure experience will be lacking, but the explosiveness and athleticism of guys we have recruited has been great. On the Offensive side of the ball, the personnel we have been picking up really fits Crowtons true system(which I don't think we have fully seen yet imo) and on defense it seems like we are recruiting more faster and explosive players to keep up with the SEC speed(especially at LB).

DItto.

I don't think I would trade the top players out of our last couple classes with just about anyone. Only place would be at LB, I would switch with UF

With that said, I do think we have made a lot of questionable pickups in the last few years--I really want to see if any of them pan out.

Tell me about. It seems like every LB recruit they get is a top 10 LB prospect. While we have recruited better than the past at that position, UF picks up some studs.

I agree with you on offense. If we get Seastrunk and Reed, I'll take our personnel on offense over every other team in the country.

On defense, I think Alem and Riley will be big losses that will need to be overcome. Alem IMO is going to be an All American this year, and we are going to be very thin depth-wise at LB going into 2010.

Riley is easily the most underrated player on LSU's team.
