Preliminary Recruiting Poll

I know there is a light year to go before the recruiting is over and the classes begin to finalize but I just thought this would be interesting to take stock of how teams are doing thus far. Recruits switch their verbals, most of the big names are still out there, the upcoming season plays a big role, and so forth. Still, recruiting your class seems to be inching earlier every year. A lot of guys have indicated a probability where they want to go. So, with that in mind, I offer what I have been analyzing over the past few days. How is everyone doing so far in their recruiting?
Rockin':
LSU - If we can hold on to the big recruits we have and land some big names to round out this class then I believe we will definitely have a top 10 class with a very good chance of being in the top 5.
Texas - Another big, solid class of Mack's choosing. Texas looks as if they will easily coast into the top 5 and if they seal the class with a couple of big names then they have a very good chance of landing the top overall place.
Florida - Meyer has a strong foundation already in place and you know Florida is going to be in the mix for a lot of top players down the final stretch. Still, they have lost a couple of players right before signing day the past two years. Moreover, I still think Florida is in a bit of a numbers crunch (correct me if I am wrong). I think Florida is a top 5 class and if they close big they may have a shot at the top overall spot.
USC - The beginning of a typical stellar Trojan class yet not quite as impressive as the last few years. I am used to seeing nothing but 4 and 5 stars on their list. Still, you know that Carroll is going to reel in some big names in the end. I think they are definitely a top 5 class and if they finish strong they also have a chance at the #1 spot.
Alabama - I don't think the gumps will print T-shirts for this class but I think they will finish in the top 10 with a very good chance at the top 5.
Florida State - Jimbo keeps impressing recruits in their homes while Bowden waits out in the car. They seem to be headed for the top 10.
Ohio State - Another solid all-around class of talent is lining up for the Buckeyes. I don't think they will be in the top 5 again but they will be in the top 10.
Penn State - They seem to be making a move this year. Joe Pa hasn't felt this good since his 70s. Penn State appears to have upped their efforts and are building a very impressive class, one that will be a top 10 with a good chance at the top 5.
Oklahoma - Another solid class that already has around 20 verbals and appears headed for a top 10 finish.
Georgia - Despite another limited class (only 20 or 21), Richt is doing his job and is almost finished with 18 verbals. Only the numbers crunch might keep them out of the top 10.
Cal - Cal has the beginnings of a very impressive class and the more I read about them and the players they are going after the more I believe this is a different Cal from previous years. If they can keep landing quality players they will be in the top 10.
Okay:
Miami - So far, not nearly as impressive as in the recent past.
Michigan - It used to be that Michigan was the A lister and Michigan State was the B lister. They appear to be on the same list now.
Texas A&M - Looking better than last few years.
Tennessee - At least Saban is not taking ALL their players this year.
Promising:
Vanderbilt - already around 20 verbals; from 3-stars!
Nebraska - Bo bringing it back one step at a time.
Arizona State - They have hot women.
Baylor - 4-stars in Waco!?
Michigan State - no longer the fallback for Midwest recruits.
North Carolina - Davis dragging the Heels forward.
Washington - Considering the disaster that was last year, a new untested coaching staff, and the 9 months of gloomy cold rain they are known for, the Husky fans are happy with this start.
UCLA - Finally some competition for USC, perhaps?
Troubling:
Syracuse - They're already counting down the days until basketball season.
Louisville - The wreckage of the post-Petrino era continues.
Ole Miss - Rebs got rid of someone who could recruit but couldn't coach and got someone who can coach but can't recruit. If only they could combine the two...
Kentucky - Vanderbilt is doing better.
Wisconsin - A disappointing season is being followed by an unimpressive recruiting drive and the Badger fans are getting annoyed.
Any team that is not mentioned can go under the Eh category. So far, they are...eh.

Florida should be #1. No numbers crunch this year, they will sign 25+. They're turning down top 150 caliber players left and right. When you look at it, they're in on more top players than any team in the nation.
Texas is slowing down and will probably be happy just to finish in the top 5 at this point. Jeffcoat, and slight chance at Hicks, are really the only guys still on the board. Flopped on White, etc.
Besides that, very good.

The teams with the best chance to finish well are the teams with quality and quantity of talent left in their home state. you can't be at the top (1-5) by going out of state only.
Florida at no. 1 is the most solid pick. after that who knows, but it won't be texas, usc or georgia in the 2-3 spots. Sistrunk and Reed would propel LSU definitely into the top 5.

OU should finish well with chances at
5-stars:
D. White
Jeffcoat
Prater
4-stars:
Justin McCay
Marcus Lucas
Cobbs
Barnett (maybe)
Trey Millard
Corey Nelson (it's not over yet)
Kenny Stills
Joshua Shaw (doesn't look likely)
3-stars:
Rashod Favors
Aaron Franklin (probably will move up to a 4-star)
Daryl Williams

what about Stanford? Seriously, don't ya think they should be included in "promising?" Recruiting there is about as hard as Vandy when you consider who they're recruiting against and the academics required.

Stanford should make that list. They are having a top 12-15 class which is unbelievable for a school with such high academic standards. They should win the recruiting title by default this year.

Yea, Stanford is interesting. Any Ole Miss fans concerned about Nutt's recruiting?

OU is going to have an unusually large class this year with 29-30. They have a shot at a top 3 class.
