3 star verbals - 2009 vs 2010

Granted its only Scout but at this time last year we had only 13 verbals and only 3 of them ranked under 4 stars (with 4 FIVE star players)
This year we've got 20 and 12 are less than 4 stars....
take it for what its worth.....I've never totally bought into the star system.

nothing against you my bro but do you ever hear that "this year is a down year for LA talent....next year is killer" line every year it seems.....??

yeah i am getting a little tired of it but i really meant this:
last years class had bigger names, not much down the line but some great instate players.
i think this class is going to be very good down the future, just no one spectacular/heisman candidates. if you look at rivals they have us with 12 4*s (soon to be 13 when Jermarcus Hardrick and the juco rankings come out), 6 3*s, and one that wasnt ranked. Which is close to what you said earlier. This class is very solid and believe will pan out nicely.

I see what you're saying, but I think everyone last year was saying this year would be a "little down" instate. That said, this class is shaping up better than most of us expected.

WTF????, last I looked we had a top 5-6 class in the country. Must be a bama fan, trying to get us to bite.

It seems you do.

It is usually better to look at a players offer list. And this season has had a few players commit that make you say "wtf is Miles seeing in them that EVERY other big name school is missing"

What 5* players should we have commitments from, I would like to see the list.....

except for maybe hunter, or lache and trovon, if they commit

My last word on the subject, and I'm sorry I went to Rivals but found that the PAC 10 has zero 5* commits at this time (the only reason I went there was to check the bell cow for 5* recruits, USC). And there are a lot more players out west than there are here in little La, we're doing just fine.....

I've noticed that Scout is sucking this year in their evaluations. Not to mention that the player's measurables are outdated too this year.
Posted on 7/26/09 at 7:29 am to OlyTiger
How many of them were 4-stars this time last year? People do this every year.
I would be willing to bet a whole bunch of them were not yet evaluated, or were 3-stars, this time last year, and only became 4-stars later in the year. Plenty of the guys on board right now will later become 4-stars most likely.
Take a look at Rivals rankings - they already have us with 12 4-star guys and haven't evaluated the Juco OT yet. That's a pretty damn good start.
Ever watch the movie "Groundhog Day"? We relive the same conversations every recruiting season.

I propose we start a rule on this board, never reference Scout's rankings. That's nothing against Sonny and crew bc they have little to do with the rankings, and they're much better than Scike. But as a whole, their rankings suck and aren't comparable to Rivals'. They simply don't have near the resources, and therefore don't know the players as well.

so i guess according to tigerbait we are doing great but according to scout we are not.

Scout only has 250 players ranked above 3 stars right now, while Rivals has about 330.
With the Rivals formula, both Zach Lee and Tharold Simon are 4-star locks, and they haven't evaluated Mathieu yet (or switched Gibson to athlete).
The ratings will be interesting to compare on August 17th, when Scout updates their site.

I said "totally".....its more of a general guide and I find the offer list more credible. Almost all our verbals include a nice list of offer schools but a few don't. I'll be keeping track down the road to see how these fellas pan out. and I'm no Bama fan trying to get you to bite. LSU alum 93 and Bama can bite my arse!!

Definitely not for 2006, 2007, 2009, or 2011. No one said those things. They did for 2008 and 2010, and that applies at least for the elite level talent.

This class is probably going to wind up very similar to 2008's class. Reed::Tolliver, Allen::Clement. Now we just need Luc::Peterson.
