There is video of the Band in the 1959 Sugar Bowl, I have video of the band around 1968 on 8mm.

If that was their home performance during the Ole Miss game (which I'm pretty sure it is) then this was the performance that earned them the award of The All American Band on TV. It was sponsered by Chevrolet. I was at that game and Archie Who played with a cast on his arm. To be fair, the Ole Miss band put on one hell of a show. Their theme was Popeye and he even ate a can of spinach. Those were the good ole days and it was payback to Archie Who for costing us a shot at the NC and a bowl game the year before.

No, it was the Alabama game in 1970. I was a member of the band.

TigerBand70. I'm not disputing that you were a member of the band but I have one question to ask you. Why is the endzone painted red and blue and says UM? Also two ex band members who are good friends of mine swear that it was the Ole Miss game. They were in the band from '68 to '71. Do you know Hunter Thom and Jerry O'Shea? These are the two who swear that it was the Ole Miss game. I have no fight in this since I wasn't a member of the band. I just went to the game and I'm just passing along what those two are telling me.

Terrific baritone player..... He was a friend of mine, also, during the Tiger Band years (and before).

As far as the video goes, it is almost certainly the Ole Miss game, but I'm thinking that the one we were judged on for the contest was the Alabama game. Could be wrong, though...

The endzone may be red but the field looks to be Tiger Stadium. I thought TS was the only stadium in CFB to have the yard marked every 5 yards versus every 10...that video shows every 5 yards marked....? Plus the sidelines look to be gold..?

It was to my knowledge or so I thought that LSU painted one endzone in the opposing teams colors back in the day and also I know for sure LSU at one point had the for squares with two in opposing teams colors at midfield.

Is it possible to duplicate your 8mm? That was my final semester in the band. What a phenomenal thing to have.

Unlike today, LSU used to have one of the best looking fields in the country. They had very talented people that knew what they were doing thanks to an AD and staff with much higher standards and school pride. The south endzone used to be painted with the visiting school colors and abbreviation for all SEC games.

Not only that, but Tiger Band used to play the fight song of the visiting school during a portion of Pre-Game. We played to the East and SE corner where the visiting fans sat then. We hated doing it, except for playing Dixie/Rebel march for Ole Miss....

Back then, the opposing team colors were painted
in the south endzone. I believe an sec logo was around midfield. The grass then was beautiful. There were no bare spots. Also, from 1969 to 1973, the time I was there, there was no rain for a home game. The game that sealed the All-American Band honor was Alabama. It was a road game. The Ole Miss game was a home game and we repeated the performance of the Alabama game. I'm 100% sure about this. I still have the old marching charts.

Yeah, Swor and Wafer's drill charts were something else, but I was so glad when we got away from stricltly military drill/pagentry and switched to Corps Style in 78. I WOULD like to see some creative military drill elements incorporated into some of TB's shows today because the halftime shows HAVE become a little too predictable and boring. The same drill techniques used in Pre-Game could be thrown in there with just a little imaginative thinking......
