This one is going to hurt Jared when he hears the news.

Jared Mitchell told his mother in a text message prior to Wednesday’s College World Series championship game that he thought it was going to be a good day.
quote:
It turned out to be a great day for the former Westgate standout and his LSU baseball teammates. LSU won its sixth CWS championship, beating Texas 11-4 in the third game of the championship series, and Mitchell was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player after hitting a three-run homer in the first inning and scoring the go-ahead run in the sixth inning after the Longhorns had tied the score at 4-4 in the fifth.
quote:
Jared’s older brother Derek Mitchell said he was very proud of Jared. I can’t even describe how proud I am of him,” he said. “When I heard his name (as the MVP), I almost broke out in tears.”
quote:
The week has been tinged with sadness as well as joy for the Mitchell family. Debra Mitchell’s grandmother, Charrlet Signater, died at age 97 last week as the Mitchells were heading to Omaha for the College World Series. The family did not tell Jared Mitchell about his great grandmother’s death so he could concentrate on baseball.
This one is going to hurt Jared when he hears the news.
quote:
“All I could think of was how hard he worked to get to this point,” said Craig Mitchell. “I’m proud for him. I’m proud for all of them (on the team).”

Thank you Jared for all you have done. As a kid my Dad took me to the CWS to see the likes of Dave Winfield, Bob Horner, Barry Bonds, and Roger Clemens to name a few.
I took my six year old boy to the CWS this year to see you play, and when he gets older and you are a MLB All-Star we will tell old war stories about seeing you at Rosenblatt. From all of Omaha thanks Jared and we luv the Tigers in Omaha.

I wouldn't want to be told if I was playing. That kinds of stuff just absolutely shuts me down to the point I would regret it later that I didn't perform well, even if its understandable.

Sat with Jared's family at the festivities today. Just real nice people. Thanked his mom for sharing him with the LSU family. She smiled, almost teared up and hugged me. One very proud family!!!
