Whats the deal with the bats Texas is using? Heard something about it from a worker said they talked about it on Ott

they look like old models from like 2005
Posted on 6/24/09 at 10:27 am to Cajunboy19
they use them to hit baseballs, right?

I am listening to Ott's show now, and the guy he is interviewing is speculating that Texas has some juiced bats from Louisville Slugger. He is saying that Easton and Louisville Slugger are in competition with each other so for their bats to look good they wanted to provide them with some new bats for the tournament. That is just one guys speculation.

One of my coworkers said they have to trash all the bats they have been using because they are not NCAA approved and they are going to the local sports store to get new ones. I don't know about this guy was just checking if anyone else heard about it.

Patrick Coogan was not accusing anyone of anything, however, he brought up the point that LSU is an Easton team and Texas is a Louisville Slugger team. Those two are the pepsi and coca-cola of the bat industry. Easton had represented the CWS champion for about 15 straight years until the early 2000's and I think Louisville Slugger teams have won most of the recent ones.
His point was that there is big money involved in this industry, and both bat companies want to say that there bats won the CWS. He had a thought in the back of his mind that the Louisville Slugger company gave Texas some supped up bats because they haven't been hitting HR's all year. I know they have a big park, but they don't have that many fly balls to the warning track at their field, and why don't they crush em out on the road?
Both teams are given brand new bats before the series because it gives the bat companies great exposure. I know when I was a kid, I would go out in June and by the bat I saw on tv.

You had over a $100 as a kid to buy those bats.

Good post on what Coogan said. In addition, Ott asked why Easton isn't doing the same and Coogan sort of said that Louisville has better technology at the moment. Strange comment.

Actually, no. But for my graduation present I got one of those sweet TPX's that I saw on tv. It just didn't hit as good for me.

This is the first i've heard of this bat discussion but i find it very interesting. Especially looking at texas's total HR's this year vs their CWS HR total. It's very very strange to have that kind of power all of a sudden.

I'm certain that LSU has brand new bats in Omaha (donated by Easton). I thought Ott's question was whether Easton could be jacking their bats up for the Tigers. Coogan didn't really answer because I don't think that he really believes that the Louisville Slugger bats for Texas are juiced.

So now we think they are cheating?? Wow. Are we this pathetic?

The balls do seem to be exploding off of Texas' bats much more than LSU's. It just seems very odd that every time a team with half the homeruns of the other tags a ball well it hardly ever falls short of the warning track, when the team known more for HRs seem to crush them to the warning track at best.
Won't accuse but it wouldn't surprise me with the way this CWS has gone.

No, we didnt say anything, we are just repeating what was said by Coogan who is merely speculating due to the competition between the two bat companies.

LSU isn't using new bats, they get the next years models in about a month before the end of the season. Gibbs is even using a 2-3 year old model.

I was including Coogan in the "we".
I thought all bats had to be checked prior to the start of the game??

You also have to consider Texas has alot of guys in that lineup that look like gorilla ball hitters. I cannot believe they have not hit more homers this year, and they are a bunt/base stealing team. Most of those guys look fat and out of shape.

I figured it was nothing. The guy in work came in talking about this big scandel that was on Jimmy Ott.

Which team was using Demarini bats? I want to say it was maybe Arizona State? One team was definitely using them. Anybody who has played baseball growing up through high school/college knows that metal bat choice is always a different choice for different people.
