McNabb gets new deal...Time for Brees???

McNabb got a pay raise on the final two years of his deal going from around 10 mil to 13 mil. With M. Sanchez and M. Stafford making 10 plus mil a year shouldn't be time to extend and give Brees a raise??? I think he still has this year plus 2 more at 10 mil per. What ya'll think?

Brees already has a cap hit of 14 Million for 09.
We don't have much wiggle room as it is.

After reading the Brees article posted yesterday about how he knows he needs a ring to be considered among the elite quarterbacks, I'm fairly confident he wants a championship more than another million to throw on the pile.

I agree, but I would like for the Saints to atleast start talking about a contract extention that would lock him in for the rest of his career.

We took a chance on him recovering from an injury when no one else would. Did they call him Breesus in San Diego? Where else is he going to find a pass happy "offensive guru" as his coach? Where else will he have at least 4 legit recieving targets on every snap. Who else has a QB opening, over $15m of cap space, and offers a better chance at a SuperBowl than us? He's not going anywhere.

this
He loves New Orleans, he loves playing for Sean Payton. As long as Payton is the coach, Drew's staying put.

I'm sure Brees will get a contract extension next year or some time close to it, but if the Saints relied on his love for the city and Payton, then tried to lowball him, Breesus would not stick around.
Love for an adopted city is great but this is still pro sports.

oh, obviously
and if the Saints did this to Brees... I might find another team to root for.

Brees doesn't deserve a new contract.
The Saints took a HUGE gamble that no other team was willing to take. They outbid the Dolphins by a ton.
Make no mistake - had the offers been anywhere in the same neighborhood, the Brees family would have leapt at Miami over New Orleans.
The Saints have borne a huge risk with this contract for 3 years, it's only fair that they now enjoy the "reward" of a relatively cheap Drew Brees.

I think he was actually trying to be smart about the spelling of the name.
going back 2 days to pick on a spelling error does seem kind of assholish thing to do though
