Microwave, in covered Corning Ware:
2 cups rice, 4 cups water, 1 tbsp salt, 1 tbsp butter. High power for 6 minutes, 70% for 18 minutes. Perfect separate grains every time. No pot watching.
I did have a Hitachi rice cooker for a while, I liked it for steaming vegetables.

The main thing about a rice cooker is that you can keep the rice in it for multiple days and it will be heated and ready to go. That is if you have a good rice cooker. I purchased one from the Asian market on lee across the street from papa johns. Works great. They have a variety. Cooks rice in 30 minutes and you can keep it in there for days, just heat up your left over gumbo in the pot then scoop some rice out and your good to go. I have also heard of them being used as pseudo crock pots
