Not sure if germans but B.A. has Jared Mitchell going #23 overall to White Sox BAseball America

23. WHIITE SOX (Jim). I'll take athletic outfielders for $200, Alex. GM Kenny Williams loves athletes, loves them, and his team really needs a center fielder of the future. Outside of Donavan Tate, Louisiana State outfielder Jared Mitchell is as athletic as it gets in this draft. He also doubles as a wide receiver for the football team, and while he still has to figure things out with the bat, he made impressive and encouraging strides this year.

Too bad HEathcott is drawing so much attention in the playoffs...even though we didnt have much of a chance of getting him on campus anyhow.

Good luck to J Mitch also...

agreed. I just don't buy the hype relative to some of our other big hitters (DJ, and Ochinko in particular).

I kept hearing word on Heathcott having character issues. I found this with more information. LINK

i've seen mitch wave at many 0-2 and 1-2 fast balls like a tee ball player this season too, godfather ..

eta: sure, you can see major speed and defense with mitchell .. but he's not going to really hit for power with wood in his hand at the next level .. and some of the cheap infield hits he's gotten in college to artificially hoist his BA are going to go away .. if they think mitch is a five-tool player now .. he's being waaaaaaay over scouted ..

heathcott - "supposed to have baggage"

his problem is with injuries from football- only has been dh this year and not pitching because of acl injury - might work to our advantage

He'll get some money up front, but living on 24K per year in the minors suck.

Thats all projections but baseball has the strangest draft and people go when they are not expected. I guess alot has to do if the team can afford to sign them.

I would take DJ before J Mitch anyday. I hope they both do well on the next level.

Why so much negativity to these guys like they choose to be scouted this way. JMitch has made good strides this year by finally focusing on baseball, just imagine him working on his baserunning, batting and fielding everyday. I wish all the Tigers luck if they get drafted. The people talk so bad about DJ he's led the best team in college baseball in batting average all year long, all JMitch did was bat 300, steal over 30 bases and have an on base perc. of .470 I say good luck and

i don't think people are trashing mitch in this thread .. just questioning why he is projected as a first round pick .. that's all ..

I would like to see JM hit a curveball or a decent change with some nice contact.

He will not succeed at the next level if he can not do one of those two things. Adjustments have to be made.

and don't even start with how fast he is etc etc etc. there aren't any pro pinch-runners

i just think mitch's BA stats have been padded pretty well thanks to good ole mr. aluminum and picking up cheap hits off the handle that are going to shatter when they are wood or will dribble helplessly back to the pitcher ... i like jared, i guess i just can't see what the scouts are seeing in him ..

I agree. A lot of plays made in the pros can't be made in college as far as infield hits go.

Put a wood bat in his hand and I smell trouble.

Good transistion of power from college game to MLB: see Aaron Hill.

I like Jared too, altho the timeout called after 2-3 seconds in the batter box is getting old.

I'd also like to see him take the bat off his shoulder before the 3rd pitch.

But he definitely has the tools, and with year-round instruction and practice- he will bring his batting up to par with his defense and athleticism.
