peter was sick as a kid (not sure if they've said how/why he was sick) and died. walter couldnt accept it and created the device to "open the window" to the alternate reality/universe so that he could basically kidnap the kid peter from that universe. so the adult peter on the show now is peter from the alternate reality, but doesnt know it.

Will we see the Walter from the other reality come to our reality to try to retrieve his son in the next season?
