Darry Beckwith trying to make his mark, getting help

Beckwith has a long hard endeavor lying before him as he tries to make the roster of the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted free agent. Other notable undrafted guys who were successful are guys like Antonio Gates, Kris Dielman and Stephen Cooper.
Speaking of Stephen Cooper, he has been showing Darry Beckwith the ropes at minicamp at Chargers Park. "You're under the radar and guys pretty much write you off because you're an undrafted free agent," Cooper said. "I learned that firsthand, especially coming from a small school. You have to earn your stripes on special teams, in the classroom and on the practice field. And when you're called upon, you can't be out there making mistakes. You have to be smart about everything you do. You can't give people a reason to be critical."
The talk among the fans in California is that they are nervous. Charger fans have felt like they have been close to having a Super Bowl team in the last few years.
Concerning drafting LSU players, they call Buster Davis, "Bust" Davis... they aren't very pleased. But on the other hand they are impressed with Jacob Hester who made an immediate impact. (We LSU fans weren't surprised!)
This year, though, the Chargers drafted Byrd who is in a hospital and brought in Beckwith as an undrafted F.A. "Will either of these two be a Hester or will they be a 'Bust'?" that's the question everyone is asking.
I hope to go to a training camp at Chargers Park soon and see how things are going.
I'm rooting for you guys, Beckwith and Byrd.

From the viewpoint of Charger fans, Hester has been great. The RB's needed someone like Hester to clear the way or be a decoy. He did that to perfection. In fact, he ran the ball with the power we saw him run with at LSU, even making a couple of BOLTS touchdowns.

Hester laid some monster blocks against the Colts in the playoffs

thats pretty harsh imo. he had a decent rookie season and was hurt last year. it usually takes players about 3 years to really adjust.

im surprised they are wondering that about a 7th rounder and an UDFA.

Yes that is harsh due to his injury last year, but he will have to produce this year and I believe he will.
